I'll have a hard time putting any VA on the same pedastal next to JH but this trailer has convinced me to open my mind a bit more and give Meer a fairer examination than I did in ME1.

Meer did a much better renegade performance than Hale did.

Jezus, if it's not about f/f or m/m then it's about Hale vs Meer.... Starting to think that's all ME is about.

I don't like Hale that much. She sounded really monotone, and kind of made me feel gloomy a lot. Not a pleasant voice. I like Meer's though, his lightens me up more.

Frankly, both Hale and Meer had good performances.  Both delivered some lines with monotony, Meer more frequency with monotony and Hale more frequency with overacting/overpronouncing (really BOLDING some words).

Both are likely to be much improved this time around.

Crawling, stop making me agree with you. I'm going to look like a sycophant instead of the snarky, wry persona I'm cultivating. Jerk.

Yes yes yes excuse me for seperating talent from mediocrity.
I'm sure it threatens your masculinity or something for me to point out Meer's monotony.

*Separating

And considering you entered a thread just to put down the male voice actor, it seems far more likely that you're the one that feels threatened by his competence, and thus compensates by advocating how much better and more skilled the female voice actor is.

Meanwhile, you accuse every one else of alternative motives and are quick to play the sexism card while triumphing your own perspective as objective truth.

Gah, enough. Meer and Hale are both fine. Personally, I prefer Hale, but Meer does a good job. You could certainly do a heck of a lot worse.

You know, I was thinking... "Did they get someone else for this trailer?" Meer was 10x awesome. He was putting emotion into his lines for this trailer. A lot of emotion. And him saying, "Tali!" when she was falling off the ship...

But I was convinced by earlier trailers that he had improved, at least slightly. I think he's getting used to this type of role, or something. Maybe playing minor video game characters and villains is a lot different.

Hey, hey, what would you have done if you were stuck in a town called Nilbog and these little midgets were slurping green jello off the floor?

Everybody always dumping on the poor trolls 2 kid.

Now that is a grade-a choice cut of some bona-fide s***.  I love it!

*looks at detour the thread has taken, shakes head*

Yes, Mark Meer definitely sounds as if he's improved a great deal. I don't know if Hale's performance will improve or not due to the preference many people had for her voice (I don't really agree with it, but whatever). It looks as though Meer has taken whatever criticism he was given to heart, though. At least, I hope so.

ME2 will be the new standard for both actors' portrayal of Shepard, so retreading old ground (ie. ME1's voice acting) is just stoopid.

While I do think she did a better VA job, I liked the sound of male shep's voice more. Female shep's voice kind of annoyed me after awhile. Just my two cents :P

I think Meer is probably a decent actor. He mentioned in a recent interview some of the many games he's been in, and the characters he mentioned don't stand out to me - but they weren't horrible. I suspect he's more used to a lower volume of voice acting, and smaller parts, which is different.

He talked about playing the game, how he knew every choice and path in the plot basically. I suspect after doing that, you'd figure out what you were doing wrong. Unlike what some think, Meer is not a hack - he seriously killed some emotional moments in ME though.

I never understood how people could call Meer monotone, flat or dull..

To me, as DudeShep he comes across as calm, steady and unaffected, which is exactly how a hardened professional Soldier is supposed to sound.

He made "Fight for the lost" not sound completely dumb! Now that's acting.

Thane and Grunts FFTL were pretty good.

I found Hale to be dry, she spoke in the same monotone voice the whole game.

I'm one of the people who absolutely loved Meers voice over and really didnt care for Hales. I suppose it all comes down to preference. She did a good job, I'm not saying she didnt. But I loved Meers performance 10x better. IMO
