 PC Specs:

Nvidia 9800GTX
Intel Core 2 @ 2.4GHZ
3.5GB of RAM

The game runs flawlessly. I don't have any issues with any other game. My initial hypothesis is that my problems are related to software issues - that is, as soon as nvidia updates their drivers and hear about this problem, my problem will go away. I have absolutely no problem with overheating.

THE PROBLEM: After about 2 hours of gameplay (I don't know the exact time, it happens around the same time however), I start to see weird polygons erupting from random parts of the environment. Triangles of color, makes it impossible to tell what is what. My framerate remains the same, as do the load times - so it is not seemingly related to problems others are having. This problem is fixed instantly when I restart my game. After I restart my game, it takes the same amount of time before I seeing it again.

Initial thoughts from bioware community?

::EDIT:: I should note that I am running the game at max graphics with V-sync enabled.

Weird.. if you had not already determined that overheating was a non-issue I would suggest it. The symptoms are classic for the kind of corruption caused when parts start to fail from heat stress.

Good luck!

I have found disabling V-sync will fix it temporarily. I've also then found I needed to re-enable v-sync later on. Moving between the two settings has made it easier but in bigger environments it gets more difficult to work around.

Another setting was to turn off gamma transparency on my GeForce 8600 GTS card.

I am hoping to find a permanent solution.

I never checked the temperature of the card while playing this game. I have with other games and it was completely normal. On that note, what is the best utility to check the temperature of your card? I used to have software that came with the card, but I don't have that any more.

If you have a G15 keyboard or other keyboard with LCD display, I would say use Everest Ultimate edition and set them on your LCD display :) Comes in handy

I get thios exact same issue.

I believe it's the Vcard getting too hot....I opened up the side of the comp and put a fan on.....

I will see if that fixes it.....Im thinking it will.

my card was real warm to the touch.

I had this issue with Champions Online and the fan blowing on the open comp  seemed to work...not pretty...but hey....

I hear turning Vsync OFF will cut down on heat ? is that correct ?

nvidia Geforce 8800 GT here...version 191.07 driver.

lets see if this helps.

You can download RivaTuner from Guru 3D, as long as you don't play with any of the settings in there if your not sure what your doing (people use this program to overclock thier video card for example). It can monitor your hardware temp while you play the game.

I got the exact same problem that you described above, roughly after 2 hours of gameplay. My 8800GT has never had this problem before and I have temperature monitoring, my GFX temp loads at 69 Celsius, as far as I know this is a perfectly normal temperature under load for this car. Let us know if the driver update helps!

I get it too, 9800GT with latest drivers.  It's not overheating, my cooling system is reporting at normal temps.

Perfect :), I notice a trend among the community then. We 9800s have the same problem. I'm 99% certain this is a software-related issue now. Nothing nvidia can't fix with a driver update. Let's hope they do.

::EDIT:: Actually I misread an 8800 for a 9800. Perhaps this problem extends to certain cards. Who knows. Fact that our temps are fine almost indicates though that it is a software issue and not hardware - as our computers don't suck :P

Remember that 9800s are just 8800s with slightly different dies.

nVidia 8800GTS 512mb with the latest drivers

Vista 32bit

Same problem. Graphics get corrupted (red artifacts) then a black screen and the pc needs hard reset. I think it only happens in conversations.

Crashes happening, some after an hour or half an hour of playing, some just a few minutes after loading.

All happening after I reach Ostagar. I've been able to go through the 'origins' part of the game problem free.

I have managed to overcome the problem or at least I was able to play for 2-3 hours crash free.

I turned off anti-alliasing and lowered the game graphics from highest to high setting.

9800 GTX... I was getting it too, but not until I upgraded my drivers. I hadn't updated my drivers in a while and was using 180.48. I was only seeing minor issues, like certain characters' hair had some significant distortion... like giant spikes jutting from their heads (but that was it... nothing to stop me playing). I upgraded to the latest (191.07) and would get the problem you all are having, and always within 2-3 minutes of starting the game! I reverted to 180.48 and played for several hours straight without any problems (except the aforementioned weird hairpieces).

I used RivaTuner to check my GPU temperature, but it was hovering around 60 degrees, so that's wasn't the problem.

I'm using Windows XP by the way.

Did you disable the framebuffer in the graphics options?

I still get the ripping/polygon glitches....if I alt/tab out of the game, it sometimes fixes for a little while...I also check and uncheck the Vsync option, and that is a temporary fix for a while.....until the graphics start stuttering and then I have to quit the game alltogether....

I get a couple hours of play usually...but no longer than that before it gets too bad to continue.

I reboot the computer..and repeat....

(( happens almost the same way every time.....))

Here is my system for the devs, if thier looking at this thread:

windows XP (SP3)

intel core2 quad Q660 2.40 GHz(4cpu)

phoenix-award bios v6.00PG

3326 ram (4GB)

nvidia geforce 8800GT card

directX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

ya...I go back and forth between that and Vsync..and antialias...and texture detail constantly...they all seem to fix it temporarily for a few minutes..then the glitches come back.... weird.....doest really matter if I turn on or off the vsync for example...it seems to fix it temporarily, then after a bit, the graphic tearing comes back.

my amd x2 is running at almost 100% with this game. and I get the graphics corruption after so long in game also like others posted here.

I went into the dragon age folders in the users documents folder and found a log folder.

General Initialize - Graphics
Graphics Adapter is 'NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT'
Graphics Failed to register the nVidia driver.
Graphics Detected 1 Nvidia GPU(s) present.

i am using the 182.08 drivers for xp

Anyhow thats the only fail I get in log for game start up and shutdown.

Just wondering if the rest of oyu have failed to register graphics driver in your logs also.

EDIT: I upgraded drivers to 191.07 and get a clean graphics initialization now

General Initialize - Graphics
Graphics Adapter is 'NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT'
Graphics Detected 1 Nvidia GPU(s) present.

but the cores on my cpu still running almost 100% so must be another issue with that.

Gonna play awhile and see if the graphics corruption occurs again with the 191.07 drivers

p.s. you would think they would support dual monitors in this game, lol the cursor wont leave the fullscreen game to second monitor, you gotta alt-tab which minimizes game...oh well.

I'm using the 191.07 drivers on a Geforce 8500 and I still get the issues others have had. Guess I'll try lesser graphics settings and see if that works.

Nope, even on the lowest settings with Vsync disabled as well as screen buffering, I still get the same issues. Sigh, this is really ruining the game for me.

doesnt matter... with aa on or off, same thing....I had it off all day yesterday....today Im trying with it at 2x to see what happens.

..so far nothing..but Im in a castle mission....the glitches seem to happen more in open environments or towns..and interactive talking parts....so thats why it probably hasnt happened yet today.
