So far nvidia's latest beta driver works the best for me,  try it. Weirdness still happens but rarely

XP x64

x32

This fixed my problem.

I downloaded the beta drivers for XP, and so far the game has run flawless on max settings.  If you're having problems with the 8000 or 9000 nvidia cards, I would strongly suggest to download the latest beta drivers.

In order to help diagnose problems OS info is helpful as well... I believe Zoot said elsewhere that he was running windows 7 and from what I've seen there are virtually no issues related to Windows 7 (other than some DLC issues which were present day 1)

I can second that theory.  Running an 8600GTS, experience the same issues described by many here when booting under XP(SP3), but have no issues at all when booting under Windows 7.  Very odd.

Thank god I have no problems with my gorgous Sapphire Radeon ATI card, I bailed on nVidia and now am a true ATI video card fan. ATI/AMD FTW!

Are any of you also experiencing problems with the screenshots? If you take a look at my profile and go to my screenshots, you'll know exactly what I mean. For some reason this has been happening to me, and it is quite annoying as I like to sift through the screenshots to 'reminisce' on what I have done. :D

I can't play this. It is such BS. All the cut scenes are in fast forward. Getting so pissed.

I'm having the same issue as described throughout all the posts here.

8600 GT

Windows XP

The newest driver (195.39) is better than the 191.07 but I still experience the issue.

Maybe overheat? Used to hapen to my computer while back, then I cleaned the inside dust, boosted the fan speeds and now all is fine.

Ah, this is the thread I've been looking for. I have the same issue, and alt-tabbing fixes it for a while, but eventually (after a few hours) it no longer has any effect. I was running on XP 32bit SP2, but after experiencing this and a hard crash of the card itself, I upgraded to SP3. The game is now playable, but only barely due to the issues everyone else here is noting.

DAO Patch 1.01
WinXP 32bit SP3
Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT
2.75GB RAM (of 4)
Intel Core2 Duo
PasteBin of my full specs: http://pastebin.com/m53bc34bf

I've been monitoring my GPU temp and it never goes above 52C.

Respectfully requesting official response.

Update to previous post:

Upon the recommendation of several other posts in this topic, I decided to uninstall my graphics drivers and I rolled all the way back to 182.50. The grapics seem a little fuzzier/blurrier than they used to but I am four days into playing with no issues now.

Sooo, is rolling back to 182.50 the only way to fix this? Because the older drivers make many of my new games look like arse :S

Geforce 8600 GT 256 mb, driver version 191.07 here, have the same problem, only worse, since I can't play for 5 minutes without my screen exploding in an orgy of... stuff. I was starting to like this game dammit >.<

I am using 8800GT, driver 186.18, never bothered to update it before.

I never had any graphical issues with this game, played on 1680 x 1050, the only thing I have not activated was the AA, other settings was set to maximum

My setup is: Intel Q6600, win XP 32 bit sp3, 2gb ram, retail game v1.00.

I had only 3 crashes from start to ending, that occurs after about more than 5 hours of gameplay.

I disabled Warden's Keep yesterday and it was fixed. I started playing today and the same thing happened all over again. I got pissed and uninstalled the game.

Now I'm sad :( It's such a great game! Why do I have to suffer all of this?

guys, google 191.70 driver problems or see the nvidida forums The world is suffering not just DA. It persists after driver rollback or with the new betas.... some say perm damage to cards...

I have the issue in DA, Borderlands, Fallen Earth etc etc., now unplayable. JUst hoping its not hardware damage and nvidia will fix in next release... EVGA, BFG all acknoweldge the problem according to the various posts.

I have a friend who is still having these problems. I've had him try many Drivers and none of them have worked so far. Geforce 8600 on XP. He has about 20 minutes of game play before things mess up and he gets blue screen.

Same issue here...

Intel Core2Duo

GeForce 8800 GT - v195.62 drivers

Windows XP SP3 with latest patches

DAO v1.02a

I am running the game at 1600x1200 with highest video settings, 4x AA and V-Sync On.

Oddly, I seem to think that my problems started when I upped the AA from 2x to 4x, so I am going to drop it back down to 2x and see what happens. If no luck, I will try the latest nVidia beta drivers.

Well, having set AA to 2x and also upped my GPU fan speed a bit (I think this game causes my GPU to run hotter than normal) *seems* to have cured the problem. I haven't had any corruption in about an hour's play when before it would show up within a few minutes... Time will tell...

Yeah, running the 8600GTS on XP using the 195.62 driver is causing me regular graphical issues and freezing when running version 1.02a of Dragon Age. Not cool.
