Is hosting all the time selfish?

I tend to play late at night by UK time, so most people I play alongside are american, so I don't host often.
Better to have one player lagging than three.
Something for KJ:

Same here. I'm a pretty sucky host as well, i only hosted a couple times when i first started. After each game I got a few messages telling me how bad the lag was so i stopped.

That said, if you know your connection isn't the greatest I think the right thing to do is not host. It isn't really fair to the other 3 players in the game to have to deal with unbearable lag just because 1 person doesn't want to. If my connection were say a 10 down and 5 up (or less), I would just suck it up and quick search so that I may be the only one that has to deal with connection issues.

I tend to host games a lot due the fact that lag kicks my butt from my geographic location, Hawaii. The Americas, Australia/NZ, and Europe are all far away and sniping off-host tends to be tough.
Generally sniping should be fine unless you are using the Kishock. All hit scan weapons handle fine over that distance. If you're hosting though you should be able to carry.

It partially depends on who ends up in your lobby most of the time, which is determined by where you live and when you play.

Same. I play super late at night most of the time, so even though I'm in US Central time, it's not uncommon at all for me to be in a lobby with Australian, Kiwi and Japanese players. So I don't usually host unless I have a burning desire to play the Slayer or another host-dependent kit.

When playing with friends, I end up hosting 9 times out of 10 by their request since my connection seems to be pretty good for most folks (several claim there's so little lag, it feels like they're on-host).

So back when I hosted all the time when PuGing, at least I wasn't subjecting people to much lag. :innocent:
Nowadays, I only try and host a PuG if I really want to use a kit that gets hit hard by lag. Even then, the lobby wait times can regularly be 30 minutes or more, so I usually only do it as an opportunity, when a host change results in me being the leader of the lobby.

My host is the same way so I suck it up and deal with all the BS you get in this game off host.

Trying to transport time sensitive data isn't just about the quality of your connection, it's also about the quality of all the connections between yourself and the others.Makai81 wrote...
I was told once by a PSN tech support guy that PSN has a roughly 15mbps "speed limit". My internet has a connection of up to 50mbps. Does having a faster connection help much if you're in an isolated location like me?
One single bad link can ruin an otherwise perfectly good connection.
Put simply, more distance = more connections = more chance of a bad connection.
Also, ping is also important, not just downstream/upstream speed. and more distance = higher ping = info is more out of date by the time it arrives.
Try using this website to see how your connection performs to the countries the people you play with is:
