Probably one of two things causing your problem, crappy copper wiring between you and your destination, or just plain good old distance, if you're connecting to american or European players.David Diablo wrote...
My host is notoriously crappy. While it's sometimes funny to put my friends through the pain, I would never impose it on randoms. Still, can someone explain to me why a decent country like England has to have such a bad internet connection? It doesn't help that I'm from the "worst" part, the forgotten north...<_<
There's still lots of old 20th century infrastructure left over in the UK, its being updated as we speak, but the higher population/wealth areas get priority, since BT and it's competitors are running a business first and foremost, so the north does get the short end of the stick.
Case in point, my connection to paris is significantly better than my connection to aberdeen, despite paris being further away and having an ocean in between, 33MS to paris with a max speed of 48Mbps downstream, 42MS to aberdeen, with a max speed of 19 Mbps downstream.
It's like our rail network, it was good when it was built, but it should have been modernised years ago.

Your connection also gets dropped so often, so....KikoChuN7 wrote...
I don't think it's selfish, the players know the ~risk~ of joining a random lobby. Lags don't bother me. I rarely host because I like the option of leaving if the players are annoying. I think that will mess up the match if I'm the host.

Maybe mostly because it seems like it will compromise my play. You can get rusty from always hosting sour games. It is so much smoother that it can make getting use to playing on someone elses host like playing on another platform. Like swimming with fins for a long time and then taking them off, or trying to jump off the floor after doing it on the trampoline for 20 min.

I'm not the best host, so I'd rather suffer the lag than have the other 3 go through it. It only seems right, but I guess a lot of people don't feel that way.
Same here. I share interwebz with my neighbors and it's their router/modem etc. Sicne my ecks bawks is always connected wirelessly it seems like a bad idea for me to host. In the middle of the night it's usually ok (they aren't up and doing a bunch of stuff on their connection) but I'd still rather suffer through lag than subject a whole lobby to some weird net flicker that forces a host migration. I play some seriously weird hours though so I frequently find my little Oregon console connecting to peeps in OZ, Europe, Asia, etc. One of my favorite games back in the beginning I was playing with a bunch of guys in various African countries. That was kind of neat.

It would be selfish of me not to host. I need to share my awesome connection with the world.
Your host isn't too bad. Not too bad at all.
Except for those occasional herp-a-derp moments, but those come with the territory.
On-host adventures, FTW!

When pugging I just search for lobbies because I don't have patience for mine to fill up (plat). It's fine to host from the moon for all I care, as long as you mention in your profile (xbox) where you're from and I can decide for myself if I'm up for that. I've learned to check that every time after few Australian hosts.

Yeah, I'm in a notorious bad spot for internet in South London, and we cannot get fibre optic at all around here so my host is sh!t for most of my FL, who are in the US. And don't get me started on the Rail network around here...

I try "not" to host as I find it to be good training, learning to kill efficiently off-host. pugging off host is another matter, I've long since lost patience for host "rage quits" and host migration every other match I play that I get dropped into. so I tend to host pug games whenever possible.

If all you do is host, then you are playing the game on easy mode too often and denying yourself the challenge of off host play, and all that entails.
I admit, some kits and weapons are WAY more effective on host (hello Crusader, GPS and N7 Slayer) ...
Edit: Personally, I play off host %95 of the time ... even vanguards. Because of this I will go a long time in between hosting games, and when I do finally end up hosting the game I always get suprised at just how much easier it becomes

Lag is a reality for MP. Fortunately you can play around it, or be revived your teammates (if they're any good-- end of wave revive counts too for surviving the wave).
