Looking through the inventory of my mage after arriving at Ostagar, I suddenly came across a familiar chantry robe. Lily's of course. Jowan's things were there as well. That made me indescribably sad... Same for Jory's and Daveth's kit that shows up in your backpack after the Joining. Lives ruined and lost, and all that remains is a bit of mundane junk in your inventory...

Hang on, does that actually happen automatically? Am I incredibly unobservant or did you steal their stuff while they were playable companions?

You always get Jory/Daveth items, but as I recall you only get Lily/Jowan items if you take them off. Could be wrong about the latter though, it has been a while since I've played mage origin.

I went and checked. One extra apprentice robe, one chantry robe, two extra pairs of rough leather boots. Lily's and Jowan's equipment had not been touched in any way while they were in the party - no additions, no removals.
For a long time I thought you only get those parts of Jory's and Daveth's kit that you had given them in the first place. It took me eons to realise that you get everything in any case.
Most other temps you have to watch carefully, though, because they tend to waltz off with your kit.

You walk off with Mama Cousland's gear and I can't recall if Soris's stuff ends up in your pocket. Tamlen, Merrill and (Fenarel?) in the origin walk off with your stuff, so don't give them anything valuable. The DN loses everything, the DC I don't recall if Leske keeps the stuff he had or not. Jowan and Lily's gear ends up in your inventory as well.

Loaded some saves and confirmed that you get Leske's kit and the teyrna's.
