So was this movie about Godzilla vs the Army or Godzilla vs another monster?

The military aspect is the most hilarious. It progresses like a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game with Godzilla thrown in as an afterthought. Wait for it on Netflix.
I actually thought of the COD comparison as well and to be honest I wish it was more like COD (at least in terms of the characters). Instead of having two or three (boring) characters coasting through the story, if you had a number of characters most of which would be expendable and you could go back and forth between them showing the human drama in a more plausible fashion.

As much as I love the Heisei Gamera movies I barely remember the characters from them...except the one angry chick from 3 but lord help me can't even remember her name.

The thing that bothered me most about this film was the stupidity of the humans and how Kickass was conveniently at every disaster site, as I said before this film needed more Brian Cranston and Godzilla and less stupid humans, American navy, and nukes.
Yeah, I'm still not sure how Ford and the kid got off the subway wreck.

There was a couple of moments I laughed at in this film. For example when the leader of the navy came up with the plan of destroying nuclear radiation eating monsters with nukes. Its like trying to kill a human with a steak.
That isn't stupid at all. After all you can kill a human with steak, either smack someone really, really hard with it, or stuff him full of it until he chokes.
And if physics were actually a thing in the movie (which is not, because if it were those creatures couldn't live at all, let alone walk around, fly or whatever), a nuclear detonation wouldn't even incinerate anything close to the blastzone, it would completely disintegrate anything. There's a reason why of some victims of Hiroshima/Nagasaki, the only thing remaining was their shadows BURNT into the walls they died in front of. And for one thing true to reality, modern strategic nuclear fusion devices do make the early nucear fission devices look like firecrackers indeed.
But you know, movie, awesome, Murica f*** yeah and all that nonsense.

More like Godzilla v.s. Monster. The military was just there to show how powerless humans are against giant monsters.

So,
It's safe to say despite the movie not being everyones cup of tea.
Godzilla 2014

does deserve to share the title of American Godzilla with the Godzilla from Godzilla the Series right?

Which despite being the offspring of this thing

Is twice the Godzilla this thing wishes it was.

Drove my Godzilla to the movie and saw it in IMAX 3D last night.
Meh, too many boring stuff and not enough Godzilla fighting. It was like two hours of build up leading to the final fight that only lasted a couple minutes.

So I saw it again yesterday, because X-men might've had *Gasp* people in it, and I wasn't having that.
I still liked it, as stated, it's not the best Godzilla movie, but it's going to allow Kaiju to come back in a big way, since Final Wars we've only had 4 of any note.
(King Kong...Which I like, Gamera The Brave...Which I hated, CloverField...which I thought was ok, and Pacific Rim...which I found pretty good)
So It's did what it needed to be, a boot to get the King of the monsters out of retirement.
Anyway, I'd say the hype train has just about died out. So this is the last time I'll be bumping this thread until maybe the Blu-ray release.
Would've concluded this post with one of the endings where Goji walks into the ocean...but I couldn't find one.
...Ok, here everyone, have Zilla get the crap kicked outta him...damn Iguana.

I liked it. Saw it twice. Any movie that can pull off of a halo jump scene with the 2001 theme is OK in my book.
Indeed.

Actually, yes. For a movie that was citing modern natural disasters as parable...plays it incredibly safe. This was less tense than Jurassic Park,,, A lost opportunity. But now Edwards is off to direct a StarWars spin off....$$$$$$$$$$$$. A f*cking spin off. Of Star Wars. I'm not sure I should have taken him seriously. Now he can sit back while CGI experts do all the work for him.
