Maybe its me.
I agree with a lot of what you said. The problem is that, without conscious effort, most games don't include s/s options at all, let alone s/s only. So while I would love for your approach to be the case all the time (the characters are created with an intention that includes their sexual orientation), if we did see that , I suspect that there wouldn't be very many options for s/s players.
I really liked how they did it with ME 3. I don't need to have an equal amount of options as every other orientation, but I'd like to see all of the orientation options in game (m/f, f/m, m/m, f/f) represented AND with options. I happened to like both Kaiden (probably my fav m/m romance of all time) and Steve, so I was happy, but other people had issues (specifically for Fem Shep).
DA: O failed for me because I find Zevran really off putting but that was my only option as a gay Warden. My warden wouldn't have gone for Zevran, so I had the option of romancing a character that conflicts with how I see my warden or not romancing anyone at all, which is equally unacceptable to me because: 1.) I
want to access that content; and 2.) straight wardens got a choice in their romance option.
DA 2 worked better for me than DA: O because everyone got options. I didn't necessarily like either Anders or Fenris, but I appreciated that I wasn't shoe-horned into a romance with one or the other. I got to pick, just like everyone else who plays (and pays for) the game.
Again, I'd prefer they go the route of ME 3 with multiple romance options for all players and everyone having a set orientation. However, given that the rumor is that DA: I is going to have
less resources devoted to romance, I have to support the all bisexual approach so I don't feel like I'm getting less content based on my sexual orientation.
