I liked how the romances were handled in DA:O better ... from an interacting-standpoint. I liked being able to pester Alistair whenever the hell I wanted for a kiss, I liked that sleeping with Zevran did not immediately lead to LET ME MOVE IN WITH YOU OR I WILL ACT LIKE YOU DUMPED ME FOREVER, I liked that I could dump Leliana when she triggered my "this chick is way too crazy for me" alarm system with her eyelashes-in-jars talk, etc.
But as for their hero-sexual natures in DA2? I preferred that for sure. Like someone said earlier, if I wasn't actively romancing, say, Fenris, I had no reason to think he was bisexual, and I thought it was pretty easy to believe that when he was making kissy face with one of my LadyHawkes, he was probably straight, and when he was making kissy face with one of my ManHawkes, he was probably bi (just because I dimly recall him flirting with Isabella a little regardless). It has absolutely no bearing on MY character's interaction with a companion if someone else is, say, romancing Merrill as a woman while I never do (I'm a straight lady, and I like to have at least one dude somewhere in the romance scene ... and if that dude happens to be me, so be it). She's straight in my games. Cool. She's bi/gay in other people's. No big.
This is partly because I know making even amounts for everyone (these ones are straight, these ones are gay, these ones are bi) is a lot more work, and I'd vastly prefer people just be able to romance the companion they like best without having to worry that oh no, the one they like best is straight/gay/whatever. It's sad enough when you get into a no-romance-at-all situation where no one can have someone!
