Just curious. Is anybody playing it? I know this is a almost a ridiculously old-school throwback & dungeon crawler, but some of those can be fun. I know the beta's been out last year, wonder if anybody is playing the full game now in release, and what they think of it.

Haven't played it, but it looks like Legend of Grimrock with more scenery. It seems to be getting decent reviews. I'll probably pick it up in a Steam sale sometime.

Grimrock had 3 classes. The bloody same as DA. Fighter, Mage, Rogue. Except they have no "lore" reason for there being no Cleric. Why does everybody do the same 3 classes?

Might & Magic Legacy X has 12 classes. Granted, it kind of seems to be a oddly repetitive system where each of the 4 races have 3 race-specific classes, one class shockingly enough devoted to might, one devoted to magic, and one "hybrid".

... IOW, it doesn't even have rogues. Let alone clerics. (Tho there are druids.)

The Faux-3D maze crawling and the 4-shall-be-1 viewpoint/attacks are soooooo 1985 Bard's Tale.

But the class variety ... shockingly refreshing, even if they are essentially 4 race-riffs on three archetypes.

Anyway, I'm waiting for it to port to Mac (which is "soon, any day now") but figured I'd ask if anybody's tried it already.

Glad to see a thread's been made about this game.

I have been debating on whether to buy this and Payday 2 DLC when it comes out, or Divinity: Original Sin Early Access (instead of on release) instead.

I am fairly new to blobbers and my experience with them (Wizardry 8) has been mixed. Seems like it is pretty good though, and I go on other websites who are pretty happy with the game.

So I'd appreciate if anybody who has played this could give their opinions or a review, though I may buy it anyway and make a let's play of it (once I finish with Wasteland 2).

For some reason, I don't think Bioware social is the best place to get info on M&M X guys.

I have only played a few hours so i can't say much but it definately have the old school feel and combat is tactical and challenging if you crank up the difficulty though never frustrating and while i did not expect more classes i DID expect they to be more diverse from one another , more skills and magic plus make them better balanced since some are great to borderline op while other are almost useless and it makes me pick the same over and over which isn't what it should be like imo and some specific battles require a bit of grinding, being one shotted isn't uncommon. all in all i do enjoy it even if i still consider it a poor mans Wizardry 8 because it's still way superior to this game.

It's in the Off Topic forum, and let's face it, while I'm sure Bio types prefer full-RPGs, they may dally with dungeon crawlers in their downtime. I do. Not every night at the movies has to be a really good art/foreign film, either. You're allowed to stray.

I've played Diablo 3. It is what it is. It doesn't aspire to greatness (although I'm sure the fanboys might disagree). It just has its moments. And leaves me tired.

Ah well. That's a very frank assessment.

I'm looking for a low-investment temporary gaming diversion.

Might also wait till this goes on sale.

@Vort3xX, so it seems it's a fun game and likely better than M&M IX. We tend to use to one or two schools of magic or specific spells of some schools in any game and avoid the others. It's a habit thing.

@CybAnt1, I agree with you. Even the old M&M games are quite fun while they're dungeon crawler semi-RPGs actually. Some people think a game must be BaldursGate-ian or Fallout-ish masterpiece or it's garbage.

I did see a review the other day that mentioned a few bugs that broke some quests but overall it sounded pretty positive. If it's not too expensive and my laptop will run it I'll look at picking it up at some point soon-ish.

"Full RPGs" ??  I think you mean, emotional engagements & romances with choices in cinematic dialog that lead to the same conclusion.

Pretty much... Who in their right mind calls ME or DA full RPGs? They're action-dating simulators with a few role-playing elements.

Just curious. Do you feel that way about all Bioware games, or just the ME & DA series?

As you can tell, probably my "all time faves" from Bio are in the past (BG2, KOTOR), but I certainly found DA1 acceptably similar (not without flaw by any means), while DA2 was annoyingly divergent.

I never played the ME series. Don't hate, just never liked enough in the first place to get into them.

Wondering where you draw your line.

Unfortunately fun doesn't necessarily have to be a "good" game or it might just be fun in 1 hour, this game have it's share of problems all right !

1. once you engaged a enemy, you cannot escape ! yes you have to win or die trying and i do not know if it's because of blind nostalgia or foolishness and very often the moment you see them it lock on combat but NOT everytime, some enemies you have to lvl up quite a bit (grinding) before you can defeat especially so called dangerous caves and special encounters, played on warrior difficulty.

2. this game have lots of bugs atm, charater portraits disappearing from the HUD, buildings goes invisible etc

3. Huge framerate problems, i have GTX 780ti sli and it still lags so even if your rig is powerful it doesn't matter.

4. lots of reused sound effects, music and creature sound from earlier installment

5. I wished for more spells, skills etc, for me it isn't as fleshed out as i wanted.

yes it can still be fun but DO not pay full price for this becasue it neeeds PATCHES in abundace, it isn't as good as the earlier installments (let's forget IX ever happened).

Thanks Vort, your well described feedback has helped my decision process.

The weird thing is they released a "partial release" (not really described as a "beta," more like "the game, but incomplete") last year, you would think they had time to fix stuff.

Oh well.

Can't remember which of the last original Might & Magics I played. Yep, pretty sure it was V: World of Xeen.
