Do you consider Dragon Age to be a Dark Fantasy?

From my perspective, no. Because prior to Dragon Age, I was a fan of other fantasies like Inuyasha, Berserk, and Crimson Spell. So compared to them, ESPECIALLY Berserk, Dragon Age was pretty light to me. Atleast Origins has a happy ending (IMO).

isn't comparing just about anything to berserk a little unfair as far as darkness goes at least,
dragon age is about the same level as Inuyasha, maybe a little darker than.

I really don't give any game a "dark" label because I find it honestly a lot like using the term "RPG" it can mean different things to different people. For me a game to be dark it would be the subject matter and not presentation and the things consider dark I think I wouldn't want to see in a video game, for I am not sure if it would be done justice.

100% True!
I'm just saying that I never considered Dragon Age a dark Fantasy because of Berserk's influence on me. Depending on what you choose, you can make a happy ending in every situtation:
1. Zathrian frees the Elves and Wolves from the Curse
2. Eamon's wife and son lives
3. You help the Dwarves fight the Darkspawn and reform their culture.
4. You and Alistair become the royal couple!
Berserk has no happy endings. Just happy moments that are very short lived.

http://en.wikipedia....ki/Dark_fantasy
Dark fantasy is a subgenre of fantasy which can refer to literary, artistic and filmic works that combine fantasy with elements of horror. The term can be used broadly to refer to fantastical works that have a dark, gloomy atmosphere or a sense of horror and dread.[1].
[end]
From that perspective, outcomes don't really matter. H.P Lovecraft certainly seems to fit into this description (in fact, he's mentioned below.) He does have some tales where protagonists succumb to horror, despair, insanity, or simply die. Others seem to have what could "more or less" be called a "happy ending," even if it's a temporary victory in a universe still defined by the Cthulhu Mythos.
Seems to me, the Old Gods of Thedas even invoke/reference Lovecraft's work.

I don't know how much of the horror element must be in fantasy to be dark fantasy. Some feel the darkspawn are just not scary/horrible enough. I will say the moment in DA:O that gave me chills down my spine the first time I heard it was the horror-rhyme-poem recited by the Broodmother that got louder and more insane the closer we got to her.
I don't think it necessarily means that the world has to be filled with tragedy, doom, or failure.

Well, it was done by Sunrise. Dark Fantasy/Science Fiction tends to be their thing.n7stormrunner wrote...

Inuyasha was dark? Inuyasha, the show where 90 per cent of the cast survived, the leads found true love and the bad guys were utterly defeated? That show was dark?
Who says dark needs to always have death in exorbitant amounts?
Dark just needs to deal with heavy issues, death being a potential one.

Inuyasha was gory at times and the heroes only beat the villain by the skin of their teeth, but dark? That's a bit of a stretch.

The lead character has puppy ears. In the series finale, Inuyasha and his girlfriend dearest the greatest evil in the world with love and she leaves the future so they can start a family together. The supporting characters, Miroku and Sango, end up having like seven kids. What's more, the villain ends up accomplishing nothing and was ultimately fated to accomplish nothing.

we'll just ignore; sango whole family being kill by her brainwashed brother stayes brainwashed for most of the manga and tries to kill her a few times. miroku spents the whole manga with a chance of dieing at any moment because the hole in is hand. covered inuyasha past in my last post but that is not exectally happy sunshine and puppies ether. oh the plucky comic relief's father was killed and turned into a belt. you may want to recheck how you define dark.

Exactly. And also there is no rule that a Dark something has to end badly. For example, Mobile Suit Gundam 00. That show, which is done by the same company as Inuyasha, is irrefutably a Dark Science Fiction and yet the good guys defeat the big bads. Granted, they lose allies on the way but so did Inuyasha and Company.n7stormrunner wrote...

I mean, we might as well say Dragon Ball Z is dark because the bad guys regularly kill off half the cast.

Kohaku survived! He even got a new weapon and became a demon hunter. And no matter how many times Miroku came close to being consumed by his curse, he survived!

TeamFourStar's version was dark.
But y'know, the Yugioh manga was pretty dark. Yami actually burned a person alive because he was, IIRC, sexually harassing Tea.
