I talked with the new composer of music for Dragon Age, Trevor Morris.

Interview

English version at the bottom.

Nice read, thanks a bunch.

The most interesting part for me was the question on composing themes for each area/country:

As you surely know, in Inquisition we will be able to travel to many countries. Ferelden, Orlais etc. Are you planning to compose different pieces that will reflect different regions of the world?

Yes I have already composed the themes for all those areas or countries, in addition to the main overall theme, which turned out quite cool I must say.

In DA2 I really liked how the Qunari had their own distinct theme, quite different from any of the other music in either game. I'm pleased to see thematic, representational music is making a return for DAI as well.

I can't wait to hear the music!

I have both DAO and DA2 soundtrack on my tablet right now (with lots of other game soundtrack, I just love game music).

Thx for the iInterview Wiedzmin.

That was a fun read! To say I'm excited to hear the music in the game is an understatement.:D

Trevor Morris, eh? Interesting. Hopefully they utilize him to the fullest unlike Mansell with ME3.

Okay, we got more information, am happy. However, am now curious as to how an Orlais theme now sounds.

Happy they got a new composer. Ion is good but for some reason the bulk of his tracks except for a few where just horrible in the DA series. Looking forward to what Trevor Morris brings.

DA seems to only use one main composer for the whole soundtrack, whereas ME was always scored by a few people doing different pieces.

If Morris is doing the main theme and some country-specific tracks, I think it's a safe bet that he'll be doing most if not all of the soundtrack.

I like the idea of this quote from the interview through:

The goal was to honor the past games but really do something fresh and different this time around. That's why they hired me.

Must've been a deliberate decision not to go with Inon Zur, and obviously they are trying to break the mould in terms of past DA games, at least music-wise.

This is definitely promising. The man is talented. Love the stuff from The Tudors, but Morris will undoubtedly create something different (in a good sense).

I'm expecting harpsichord. Harpsichord and maybe some woodwinds.

Inon made some very good vocals like the main theme and leliana's song
The rest was passable

Good job! So I guess the music at the beginning of the E3 trailer is part of the main theme?

Jay Vincent, who made the music for the E3 "Fires Above" trailer, said that Trevor Morris' work so far on DA:I features drums.

Dekuje, Wiedzmin (interesting Witcher-related name ;) !

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0007129/

Trevor Morris: The Tudors, The Pillars of Earth, Vikings, Reign (in production), etc... He's definitely worked on both early medieval and late medieval soundtracks, he seems like a great choice if you ask me.

It was composed by a different composer actually, I think they like to mix things up with the trailer music or something.

I'm still sad Inon is gone, but success to this man. I liked his work for Vikings, anyway.

That's a lot of one sentence answers to every question.... guess he's not really talkative...

Really? He really can't say too much without giving stuff away.

I'd love to see more piano in the Dragon Age soundtrack, maybe some bagpipes.

Sounds like the Kimi Raikkonen of composers. I can dig it.

I'd like to see more exotic instruments being used (like the sitar), especially if we visit places like Tevinter (whose architecture is definitely inspired by Angkor Wat and other Southeast Asian/Japanese temples).
