No way. No GI can kill faster than a well played Drellguard, for example. Not on gold. Platinum, maybe, yeah. On gold, nope.

The fact that you were most impressed by GIs has more to do with the fact that everyone and his mother was playing GIs only, than with the GI actually being the fastest killer. Plus, there were significant balance changes and DLCs in between.

I mean seriously...what the huh kind of drivel gets spouted by the 'elite' around here these days? Am I going to have to come back full time just to save any new players who might drift in? Props to Mrs_Anomaly (long time no see) for actually having a lick of sense and some perspective about one of her favorite characters.

To clarify: what I said was refered to rather specific conditions: gold, full team game, and with good teammates. Why? Simply cause that's the way I have the most fun in this game, so if I'm asked to provide an opinion I will usually provide one that reflects that. I will leave other people, who prefer other kinds of games and have more experience with them, speak about that.

For example, it's pretty obvious from the times that the talon is a wonderful solo character. But as I said, not what I'm talking about.

And yeah, on platinum the boss spam completely changes that meta game, so I can see the talon doing great in full team matches too.

But on gold, with good teammates that are going to aggro the spawns less than 5 secs after they spawn... Things are different. The 2-3 secs it takes to dish out the mines are the 2-3 secs in which 80% of the damage to the spawn is done. So when they detonate... They ain't gonna kill much. And even if you can somewhat get around that by pre-placing 2 of them... It's not always easy to that in time and to predict the right spawn, and that's not gonna help with mid-wave spawns.

Under the conditions I have explained, the most important things are two: not only how much damage you can generate, but also how fast are you able to generate it. The Talon's great at the first thing, not so much at the second...

I see, I see...yeah that's true. He's not the character for me, that's for sure. So what characters would you pick as having the highest dps? What is number 1? I'm guessing you might say drell vanguard.

Wallhack isn't that big of a factor, if you know the spawns good enough.

But you're right. As soon as the Drellguard runs out of thermals, the GI's damage gets higher. The point is, even if you spam all the grenades you possibly can..  You won't run out of thermals until wave 9, 10. So for 9 waves you deal more damage than the GI... And in the end, you'll have dealt more damage at the end of the game.

@Cookie: yeah, under the conditions I mentioned, the DrellGod is king. My very biased opinion, of course.

Then Fury, GI and QMI are close contendants for the second spot. Fury being better in close maps, QMI against Cerberus and geth, GI probably the best overall among all maps/enemies combos.

Then there are others that are very good too, but they're definitely not at the same level - slayer, turian soldier, GT, and lots of others...

I agree the GI with various weapons is absolutely top tier, but can you really claim that if the GI gets to a spawn at the same time as the Drell Adept, that it will be able to wipe out the whole spawn faster than that Drell?

Or that the Drell Vanguard won't beat that GI to the spawn and start raining down a hail of +%90 damage cluster grenades?

And there is someone on my friends list who doesn't play much anymore (and I do not believe follows BSN) who is absolutely top tier with every kit, who can make the Talon Merc (even in a full team game) dominate spawns to an illogical extent.

As much as I like the GI, I cannot claim it is able to wipe out spawns faster than these set ups

Drells are the gods if you can play them. At least vs. hordes of enemies like in gold matches. Single target DPS on platinum not so much. But people who can't play Drells right won't understand...

What relevance do wallhack and sustained damage output have got to do with how effective one can play this game? On Gold - which is the benchmark IMO, for obvious reasons - AND with good teammates, luck is the deciding factor, not the kit. If the RNG gods favor me by spawning enemies constantly in my path I am gonna outperform Talon GI's easily with any available kit regardless who plays the GI (and vice versa of course).

If we're talking solos, ease of use, and against all enemy factions then sure the GI is best kit - it has zero weaknesses - but being the overall best kit =/= being the best at everything against anything everywhere. There are plenty of kits that are better at taking out mobs and there are others who can cheese through bosses faster. Either way, those kits are going to out-DPS the Talon GI in those situations - which are plenty btw.
