In fact, I really do like the ending. Basically, I see it as an eons-old rogue AI that is caught in an endless loop of massacre. I think all four-ish options proposed can be compelling to a certain type of protagonist. (Extended Cut, of course)
The "control" proposition might fit a rather humanity-first Shepard, possibly renegade, who wouldn't be afraid of making sacrifices.
The "synthesis", in turn, could fit any type of protagonist who considers evolution as a means to achieve its pinnacle rather than a natural process.
The "refusal" would fit a stubborn, yet courageous Shepard, letting go of the fight to let future cycles benefit freedom from the Reapers.
The "destroy" option is the one I find the most compelling, if not for the
destruction of all synthetic life forms, i.e. the Geth and EDI.
I think an extremely high-EMS, paragon Shepard that resolve the Geth-Quarian conflict deserves an endgame where all races survives.
I am not at all a heavy modder, but I simply wonder if there was any way to modify the cinematics and dialogues, simply to erase the "all synthetics have to die" dialogue in a 4000+ EMS career.
**My ME1 & ME2-imported, paragon, 100% playthrough Shepard had an EMS of 4065 by the last mission, with all DLCs installed
I've isolated the (very few) tweaks that would have to be made :
-The Catalyst saying that destroying the reapers "will not discriminate" - basically half a dialogue line
-"There has to be another way", "There is" after the destroy proposition - simply because Shepard shouldn't believe the Catalyst when it says peaceis impossible
-The Quarians on their homeworld (should be replaced by a still with both Geth and Quarians, maybe)
-EDI's name on the Normandy's memorial wall
I understand this is quite a large undertaking, but please let me know if you know of a way to mod the game properly.
