I like the Graal on Krogan melee characters.  It staggers pretty reliably, which allows you to get into melee range without getting shot, and you don't need to carry a Choke or piercing mod, so you can slap on a melee mod.  Plus, if you ADS, the Graal has really good range.  The only downside is you pretty much have to host if you want to be able to hit enemies who are moving.

The Claymore is really good and fun, and is even powerful enough to do well at lower levels.  I like using it best on the Human Infiltrator, or any Krogan/Batarian.

I don't really use the Reegar.  It's kind of annoying to use, and it's not quite as stupidly OP on console (although it still is incredibly powerful).

Krentinel with a reegar speced for melee is a very good choice IMO. When you look at it, the sields and barriers are the main obstacle when dealing with the enemy. So it makes perfect sense to use a weapon that is designed to trivialize those deffences on kits that don't have powers to deal with them.

For those three guns, I would recomend using the reegar on a melee Krentinel, especialy if you're relatively new to the game.

I find the Graal quite tricky to use especially off host but it's no doubt a very good gun, i'm only just starting to get comfortable with reload cancelling so i'm starting to appreciate just how good the Claymore is

Shotguns in general are very good. Wraith, claymore, venom, crusader, piranha, graal, reegar, Geth Plasma Shotgun.  Wratih is definitely the best all purpose weapon. Only gun you'd ever need. The others have their strenghts and weaknesses.

Graal is great at staggering enemies and a charged shot kills a good amount of things in one go. But, projectile weapons are always iffy off host. Same thing for the venom and GPS.

Reegar and piranha both have amazing dps, but are undone by their lack of range.

Crusader and Claymore have great range and pack a mean punch. But they are big and heavy. May not be great for some of the more cool down dependant characters.

Wraith however is lightweight, accurate for a shotgun, and does damage comparable to the Claymore. The perfect weapon.

I just like to pick on those who bash it.  It's fun to use IMO and even though I rarely use it now, I used to use the heck out of it along with the Harrier when just starting.  I mean OP has less than 100 hours...

So what I've gleaned from this is, on-host GST is completely legit but it's apparently rarely used, on/off host Reegar makes me a sniveling son of a dirty Reaper hooker, and if I want to be one of the cool kids, then Claymoar b/c pro. Seems to me if it wasn't for the Reegar then everyone would be saying the same things they say about the Reegar, about the Claymoar lol

No one in their right mind would talk about the claymore as they do about the reegar. They're just... Completely different things. Try them out yourself and you'll understand what people like Fortack, me and others mean

The Graal is pretty cool as well and does incredible damage. A true Krogan weapon.

Would you say it's a good choice for a kroSent? Good melee damage plus lift grenades for stagger, could be a winner of a combo.

The acolyte is almost as bad as the reegar.  I'd argue that the acolyte has had more impact on tactics than the reegar or any other DLC weapon but that's an 'discusion' for another thread.  ;p

Like somebody else mentioned, you should include the Wraith as an equal option to those other three weapons.  Even at level one, it's awesome (iirc, ibaw) and meanwhile your reegar is going to suffer from limited ammo due to its low level and your spare clip mod only being at level one.

If you want to melee I'd say your best manifest choice is the Falcon+Omnblade-IV.  Here's a build I use frequently (though with the Striker X).  The Cryo ammo + Incinerate's freeze combo will give you solid armor damage.  The Falcon's stagger sets up your melee attacks.  Consider taking a second low weight weapon for when you need ranged DPS.  Remember that the weapon melee mods are the biggest difference maker when it comes to weapon damage since that multiply total melee damage rather than adding a % of base damage.

Alternatively, you could go for a no cooldown build since that will let you ignore weight, which is one of the main drawbacks of low level weapons.

The reegar enjoys its status among BSN because it is the highest dps gun in the game, and it requires almost no aiming/skill to use. Plus you can score headshots with it and it doesn't even weight that much. Simply put, even your gold fish could use it.

Claymore on the other hand is probably the best SG in the game but it is heavy, fires just one shot, and requires a good aim to get the most out of it, and reload canceling.

I will confess that I replaced the reegar with the clay on all of my reegar kits lately and just can't get enough of it. The most deadliest weapon in the game IMHO.
