www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131722-Report-Amazon-Android-Console-Set-to-Launch-This-Year

Though Amazon hasn't confirmed anything themselves sources are idicating that they are planning to release an Android based console by the end of the year and have plans to compete directly with Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

No specs have been released but the price point being thrown around is about $300.

Do you think these rumours are true?

If so do you think Amazon has the brand recognition to make an impact in the console market or will it just get brushed aside like Ouya (that's still a thing right?)

Also then with the big 3, Valve going for the living room, and now Amazon, can the market handle it or wil the average consumer just be offset by the amount of consoles available and result in a market crash like in 1983?

That... That doesn't sound too bad actually. I buy almost all of my games on amazon anyways, so an amazon console has potential.

I have the ultimate console.

It's called the "PC."

Amazon would throttle MS and Sony if they decided to compete in the console market.

Doubtful. It is true that Amazon has the advantage of an excellent distribution system that can ship to almost anywhere in the world. However, their digital games market is restricted to the US and both Microsoft and Sony have already-established, large, user bases.

Isn't that a bit of a leap? Plus, if it were true, Amazon could not hope to compete against the likes of Microsoft or Sony.

If this is true I hope they release specs so we have a better idea of what type of games to expect, but if they are planning to compete against Sony and Microsoft they need specs comparable to those systems, don't know how many of the larger publishers would back a console that would require too much effort to port a game.
