Imprison ringleaders, low slave diet

Root out corruption, but food is prioritized for the strength of the human Imperium

Decapitate the riot leaders, give the elves some more food, punish some humans and make women work in my harem. All in a days work.

Execute ringleaders, order an investigation addressing the concerns of corrupt guardsmen (with the punishment for being declared guilty the loss of the right hand for theft against the crown should such an option be made available), and declare that an equal amount of food be made available for all citizens of the city, regardless of race or social standing.

My "canon" Inquisitor is going to be an Elven Warrior so he'd be more inclined to side with the Elves. He'd probably conduct an investigation on the matter but still order for the food to be distributed equally. The guards, if found guilty, would not see the light of day for a very long time.

Elven Inquisitor:
Stab the Orlisian Fops, he may be an Elf but he's very Ferelden, He even has a Mabari tattoo that can bark.

Qunari Inquisitor: Kill the Corrupt guards and work with the Elven leaders to bridge the gap. If that doesn't work killing the humans with the funny accents should work.

Human Inquisitor:
Imprison everyone involved and have some thugs torture them slowly.
Then burn their alienage and kill the guards families.
He doesn't have pity for anyone.

Well
I execute all the guards involved
And 1 in every 10 elves in the alienage are to be executed, only the old and children to be spared

Problem solved

Someone already gave my answer, but I'll post it here- Investigate the accusations of corruption within the guard and punish the offenders, then require that rioters either join my army or hang. If they survive, they will be considered pardoned. Food should be distributed equally.

Eliminate the corrupt guards. Take in the elven ringleaders and let them choose the penance for their crimes: serve the Inquisition at the 'Keep until released from duty, or die (<-- that last option is actually qamek, but shhh!).

Lastly, tell Celene that the elves were put to justice, for surely that is all she will care about.

Human inquisitor.

Investigate and determine guilty ringleaders, rioters and corrupt guards. Draft all of them into a newly created mixed human/elven combat unit so they may learn both true hardship and the value of cooperation at the front lines.

Announce that further rioting and corruption will be punishable by draft into a penal battalion.

After the mixed unit has proven itself, it will be dissolved and the survivors sent home so others may learn from them.

Execute the elven riot ringleaders and then execute the guards suspected of corruption... His soldiers will be armed and ready to put down anyone who wants to challenge his judgement.
As to the food, food is prioritized favoring those who are most useful to the Inquisiton

Take all the food, and give it to the Inquisition. Then leave the town as fast as possible.

QunQuizzy:"Fixing your mess is not the demand of the Inquisition and you should all be grateful!"

And then he orders food to be distributed evenly.

And at the end he expresses his love for cookies and orders ringleaders and corrupt guards to bring him all the cookies while they live, if they want to live because:"Your cookies are belong to us" as he said...

Depends on what type I am RP'ing at the time.

What *I* would do?
I will try to look at the issue first without looking at the race of those involved;
Then I will look at the implications of racism being involved;
And at last I will try to consider fleeting ideas like "the greater good", justice, mercy, etc.

Hypothetically, my Kossith Mage would free the Ringleaders, then would order the
guardsmen distributing the supplies to be relieved of those duties. In their stead, he
would utilize their potential wages to pay for a respectable ascendant dwarf business
to distribute the stores appropriately and evenly to both parties, without racial concern.

I think an elven alienage could be useful when it comes to influence. If some of the elves agreed to join the Inquisition they and their families would be given food. The Inquisition woudl run the alienage and Orlais wouldn't have to deal with them.

Save the alien-age, those corrupt guards have no right to treat them wrong because of their race/

Just for the purposes of roleplay and/or discussion on what type of player characters we are planning to create, I thought it might be fun to post a hypothetical scenario the Inquisitor might be faced with. How would you deal with the problem(s) posted below? Also if you want to contribute to thread by posting your own problem for the Inquisitor to solve...feel free!

The Inquisitor is called upon by Empress Celene to deal with an insurrection in an Elven alienage in one of the Orlesian cities. Upon arrival the Inquisitor is informed that the city guard has managed to quell the rioting and apprehend the ringleaders, but as the Empress' agent in this matter you are asked to sit in judgement. The Inquisitor hears the accusations made by the town's mayor and the captain of the city guard, and then gives the accused a moment to say a few words in their defense.

The Elves claim that the war and disorder brought upon the realm by the Fade tear and the conflict between mages and Templars, have resulted in food shortages in the city in question. To alleviate this problem the town's fathers were distributing bread and cheese from the city's stores, but the distribution was not being carried out equally. A priority was being given to human citizens. With the food shortages most deeply felt in the alienage, the Elves allege that some human guards overseeing the food distribution took advantage of the situation by pilfering supplies and selling them on the black market. Elves who couldn't afford to pay the exorbitant prices, were starving. Out of desperation to feed their malnourished families some of the poorest Elves rioted and looted stores, and in the process lives were lost on both sides. The Elves claim of inequality and corruption is backed by some human residents.

Surviving guards implicated for corruption deny any wrongdoing. They also point out that the mob did not just assault the city guard, but was indiscriminate and also assaulted and robbed human civilian bystanders, some of whom died of their injuries. Their account of indiscriminate assaults and looting is backed by some Elven residents who didn't participate in the riot.

Does the Inquisitor free the ringleaders of the riot or have them executed? Does the Inquisitor address the corruption of the guards or the inequality of the food distribution, and if so, how? How would your character rule?

Have the corrupt guards crucified on the steps of their own barracks,  making it clear any other corruption or abuse will be met with the same repsonse.  With that object lesson in place, keep an eye on the food distribution to ensure it is still clean.

I would execute the rioters and thank the guards for their loyal service to the Empress. I would execute anyone who would complain about my judgement. I would then instruct the guards to burn the alienage to the ground and kill every knife-ear they see if they so much as hear a whisper about another riot.

Dust off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure. Metaphorically of course.

Either that or tell Celene "no" and continue with the campaign.
