I'm glad he has his own plot line. Considering he's one of our advisors, it's probably the only chance we'll have it killing him.Maybe not to you, but to other people? He's an interesting character
Why is Cullen considered "fan service?"

I'm personally interested in his character progression. His views changed after DAO's event, but he didn't fall as other templars in Kirkwall in abusing mages. He saw both the mages and the templars at their worst, and I wonder how he'll react to DA2's events. Plus, as I said, he's strong-willed, which is a trait I'm a fan of. I don't really care about his appearance because I like women.

One way of looking at it I guess. Look, he's just one character out of twelve, nothing wrong with it.

Nothing wrong with fan-service. BW noticed how much fangirling Cullen got and gave a little nod in Witch Hunt. Then they made him hunky and referenced his creepy obsession with FemMageWarden and whooo nelly! BioWare likes to make their fans happy. Even if they can hit you over the head with references, it's all right with most players from what i've seen. Don't see what's wrong with that. He isn't being objectified, so, why is this an issue? IT'S NOT.
It gets annoying quite fast. There is plenty of people in all the origins and some of them have more personality than Cullen does. Yet we don't see other than Amell origin getting as much attention and easter eggs
Quite unfair if you ask me.
Plus, he's boring, even visually quite meh

I'd like the options to do so though. It'd allow interesting roleplaying options.

How he changes he is same in both games.
"Mages cannot be treated like people. They are not like you and me. They are weapons. They have the power to light a city on fire in a fit of pique." (To Hawke, Enemies Among Us, Act I)
He only go against Meredith last moment then she having mental outbreak. Well who wouldn't, no mater how loyal you are I doubt any temlar would help.

I'm sorry, did you PLAY Mahariel Warden imported into DA2? Nobody ever shut up about Mahariel or Tamlen or their clan. I arguably think THEY have the most mention out of all the origins (no, Amell doesn't count, they shared a last name but Amell isn't even mentioned if you didn't play a Warden Amell)
Also, Merrill and the REST OF MAHARIEL'S CLAN.
Cullen was a character that was deemed popular and warranted return in DA2. The writers evidently felt that because of what he had been through, he was relevant to the Mage vs Templar plot. He was evidently again, popular enough to warrant his return in Inquisition and it's not like his presence ISN'T justified after everything he's been through. He's probably an expert on demons and abominations at this point

This is true. He only seems more moderate in DA2 because he's surrounded by the total whack jobs that are the Kirkwall Templars.

Is he the one who says he will kill you if you fail?

The Dalish origin gets a lot of references, too. Iunno, it seems you either love cameo-central or hate it.

I would still consider that personal growth, a lot of the other Templars sided with Meredith even though they new she went batshit

Side with templars at the end of Act 3. Cullen actively defies Meredith and wants to protect three mages from the annulment who ran from Orsino and begged for mercy because the others were now using blood magic.
I think that's a pretty big step from what he said at the end of Broken Circle, and that's also 6 years since Act 1.
Something evidently made him change his mind.

What Templars? No one helped Meredith, she had only army of statues. I need something like this for my Inquisition army, would save a lot of people. ![]()

He's the one who was tasked with the job. He didn't want to do it. Be stated in both the Magi Origins and in The broken Circle that he felt Sorry for mages. He changed his opinion after Uldred. This is true. He only seems more moderate in DA2 because he's surrounded by the total whack jobs that are the Kirkwall Templars.

So? I'm not saying there shouldn't be easter eggs
But giving more easter eggs to some random unimportant NPC rather than some companions is odd at best

Well, I'd argue that Cullen's involvement in multiple required storylines in all three games in the series would make him not unimportant. I think people have convinced themselves that he's unimportant because it adds weight to the "Cullen is only fanservice" story that they've created in their heads.

Because in appearance and personality he's Alistair lite, he's only been made important because in the female mage origin he has a hard on for you and that tickles the fancy of the fanbase.

? Because they are both blond templars who are somewhat naive and inexperienced? Yeah, in that way they are similar. Other than that, how exactly is Cullen just Alistair lite?
Also, I've never played a female mage, but I still think Cullen is a fairly important NPC because he was in the Broken Circle quest in DA: O, the templar storyline in DA 2, and is playing a fairly important role in DA: I. So, I don't think it has anything to do with his crush on a female mage.

Considering if one doesn't play Amell/Surana, and that Cullen can be easily forgotten, I don't believe in is "importance"
Yeah, in the end of DA2 he realised Meredith went crazy. But so could any other templar character. There is nothing truly unique about Cullen, really. Nether in looks or peronality
