I would be slightly annoyed if he was a companion, but mostly because I would rather see some new faces instead of a constant Easter egg circle jerk of characters from the first two games...

Wait characters will be jerking each other in a circle with easter eggs? Are these the new romance scenes?

If they're nude it will be heralded as the most "mature" bioware romance scene.

Ok so now we have threads that set up strawman arguments against anyone who wonders why Cullen should be a significant character. Great. We have really evolved.

Why We Love Cullen
Who Is Cullen
What Are Your Motivations For Not Liking Cullen
Why Cullen Should Be President
Cullen Is Not The Justin Beiber Of Thedas

Pretty sure this forum is going to end up eating itself before the game is released.

Do you have something better to talk about during this info drought?

Anything. What's the weather like where you are?  Don't say it's as cold as the icy glare Cullen gives to an apostate.

I think I might go into game release blackout early this time around. To avoid both spoliers and info drought forum madness. Everyone play nice.

Nah, they're going for some hardcore romance this time around. Your first sex scene will involve a short burst of activity, followed by some awkward apologies and crushing dissapointment. Your second advance will be brushed off with some flimsy excuse of a headache. Your final sex scene will go well, but you have to choose between banging at an inappropriate time, or completing some time-critical mission or the other.

I was not expecting those flames. I wasn't trying to start anything. I didn't see any Cullen threads at all, and I was trying to get some answers. I appreciate those that weren't trying to flame me for asking.

Oh and knock it off with the Twilight jokes. Anyone that goes from Edward Cullen to Cullen the Thedas Templar has got way too much sparklies on the brain. I swear, more posters think about Twilight than most teenage girls.

So they go from Team Cullen to Team Edward Cullen? I know, I will go one step further and go from Team Edward Cullen to Team Edward Elric.

To answer this blog post by Gaider is relevant.

Also, Cullen is certainly not confirmed to appear in DAI. That thing with his VA's twitter doesn't count; it could be anything, another character or another project. As far as companions go, only the ones who has been shown in footage has been confirmed so far; Varric, Cassandra and Vivienne. For other non-companion characters, Morrigan is the only one who has been definitely confirmed. I think there is good reason to also suspect Leliana to appear, but I haven't seen a confirmation on that, and I certainly doubt she'll be a companion.

For Leliana, I think we can pretty much say so, especially because of that one concept art. Plus, for those that killed her, the devs had to bring her back for a reason.

That's what I had said in my OP.  That it's been assumed that he'll appear, but we can't take it as WoG yet.

Thanks for the link!

No, it isn't. Gaider would say as much whether or not they actually handled character popularity in that manner. The recycled characters in all of Bioware's games conflict directly with Gaider's post. Some of them evolve in the manner he talks about, but many don't. Others had so little presence in the prior game, one wonders why they were brought back.

The time and effort they're putting into re-using characters would be better spent on devising new ones. Especially when the game's main conflict, location, and character all change.

As sad as it is, Awakening had fewer recycled companions than DA2. Awakening would have been fine with recycled companions, it was an expansion.

@Rot Did you read the whole thing or just skim it? He was talking about bringing characters back for more than just a cameo:

So, when it comes to considering whether a character will make an appearance—and by that I mean as a follower or major character in the story, not simply as a cameo—our thinking solely revolves around what more we could possibly do with them. Do they have somewhere to go that we find interesting? One assumes they were popular previously because of how well they were written, so our focus is on whether we could write more and make it good. If we’re bored, after all, you’ll be bored.

I went over this in my Shale thread, but I'll just say that I think fans are looking for reasons to be angry about any character daring to return.

Because, you know, making sure no one mentions or sees those characters again makes total sense, right?  Oh and there is no new characters or companions in Inquisition, correct?  It's all just re-used characters.  /sarcasm

Anyhow, thanks to everyone to answering my question!  I appreciate it.  :kissing:

I don't care if appeared in a previous game, I'd just be glad that we would finally be getting a Templar's perspective for once. I mean, we've already covered a decent amount of popular perspectives a mage might have (pro-circle, apostate, maleficarum, desperate rebel and so forth), but hardly had the chance to communicate meaningfully with anyone from the other half of the conflict - the Templars.

Cullen is interesting because he would give us such an opportunity.

he's "fanservice" because a lot of female players like him and it sticks in the fanboys' craw that the fangirls like something that might actually be included in the game i guess

personally i don't really care because i'm not that partial to him as a character nor do i find him particularly attractive but he certainly does have a stake in what's going on so his inclusion wouldn't be unfounded

I'm guessing because a lot of female players want him to, Pamper their Paragons, Grey their Wardens, Circle their Mage, or Satisfy a demand of their Qun.
