I was stoked for this game to come out, but lacking in MMO skills...I did manage to get my laptop to tinker a bit with WoW............and I failed to see the hype.

Any BSNer's still play TOR? Would be be worth investing?

Also need someone to explain the specs

According to Can You Run It, TOR requires

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0 GHz or betterCPU Speed:InfoRAM:Windows XP: 1.5 GB, Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB, PCs using a built-in graphic chipset: 2 GBOS:Windows XP (Service Pack 3), Vista, 7Video Card:256 MB of on-board RAM and Shader model 3.0 or better support (ATI Radeon X1800 or better, NVIDIA GeForce 7800 or better, Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better).

My Laptop Specs Are

2009 Dell Premium Windows 7
2.20GHz
I3-2330 CPU
6GB
64 Bit Operating System
Got 441GB left
and that atrocious family graphics HD card

So.... I'm assuming based on that crappy card, if I tried to DL TOR, it'd go ERROR and die or something?

You may find this illuminating (or not):

It's free, so you really have nothing to lose in trying it.
If it's one of those crappy onboard videocards that lacks all the shader models and such, yes, there is a good chance it'll sputter and die the moment you try to run it. (however if you can run most Bioware games on it I suspect you'll be fine)

If you don't have any downloads limits or such, I'd say give it a shot, just let it download overnight or something.
And I still play TOR on a regular basis to answer the original question. :)
That being said, it's a vastly different beasty from WoW - and far more story driven.

I've played SWTOR since pre-launch. It's free. I think your system should be able to handle it if you turn down the settings.

Give it a try!

Thanks! I am playing the free version LOL. I see some restrictions, such as I can't choose all the races, and whatnot....

But the free version is still the complete game right? I can still get my own ship, and do the romances etc?

Yup, all the good stuff.
The only thing you'll be restricted from is the "expansion" content (lvl 50-55) - if I'm not mistaken you need to subscribe for at least one month to permanently unlock it. (it used to be a purchaseable upgrade, but they changed it recently)

Yep. That's correct. Also your interface is limited and if you want to do PvP then you have to purchase that through the cartel market. As well as escrow accounts etc. Hope you like it. :)

Ahhh. I doubt I'll have to worry about that. I'm only a Lv. 4 Consular LOL.How do you chat with random people LOL?

I'm still learning how to kill training droids

You will be limited in the number of Space Missions that can be flown during a week, unless you pay additional fees. This was one reason I stayed with a subscription while I was playing.

And you may find other Class storylines to be somewhat superior for the long haul. Personally, I preferred the Sith Inquisitor, Bounty Hunter, and Trooper to those of the Consular.

There's a "general chat" for your area, just hit enter and start talking.
Sending tells to a specific player should be something like /t playername message
Example:

/t Phoenix_Fyre How's that Jedi training coming along?

Ahhh. I did start a JC and a SI, ended up deleting the SI.... I wanna give the smuggler intro a roll though.

@Azaron

Really? Thanks. I'll have to try that next time :)

I'm downloading all the stuff that's changed since I last played. It will be interesting how many of my old characters survived and where they are.

Smuggler is a good story. I preferred the operative and Sith inquisitor.

Operative and Sith Warrior are probably my favorites, though I'm very fond of the SI too.

As far as storylines go, I'd have to say Imperial Agent was my favourite of the ones I did. They're all pretty well done though, and the highlight of the game in my opinion as of the last time I played.

Anybody tried out the new space missions?

Tried, but failed; too difficult for me. And I refused to use proton tubes simply to succeed at them, as I consider that weapon mod broken.

Galactic Starfighter? Yeah, I play it occasionally.
Quite the difference from the other space missions. They're adding another ship type when the update goes live officially on Feb 4th.
Bombers!

Wow, glad I see SI getting some love. Now it stinks I'm stuck at 2 characters. I'm just syked that my laptop actually runs TOR- PLUS it's Free! Thank you TOR people!

Well I heard you don't get your own ship till Lv. 16. Boooooo. What's the ship like? Waaaay back in the day, I played SW Galaxies for a little while, and is ship flying like that?

The ships are alright. You have to advance through your story and get off the starting planets to get your ship.

My operative was my first toon. In the beginning she was massively overpowered. She was nerfed many times. I do have a Mara, Sith Warrior. He was fun. Still is. I play a smash monkey with him. Huge DPS with a few hits of the keys. Loved the voice actor too.

Zash gives the SI her light saber. When you pick an advance class then you'll get either a double blade or an offhand.

Possibly. There are several kinds of currency in the game: Cartel Coins, credits, real cash, etc,; items may be available in various ways.
