One of the pleasures of SWTOR was to RP as freely as desired. My SI was also my first PC, and at that time, the Grey Side was my long range goal. He was generally benevolent to the oppressed, but a nightmare to those that lacked respect or stood opposed to him. The more memorable of my high lvl playthroughs.

And due to the Legacy system, his Sith siblings on either side of the smoldering War worked secretly with noble intentions to place him on the Emperor's throne someday. One was only bound by their own RP whether to stick to extremes, or to choose some sort of middle ground. One could choose to please Companions, reward desired behavior, ignore quests that opposed personal morals, etc. A lot more freedom in dialogue selections than many games.

Yeah, the Legacy tree is part of the fun too!
I made myself a whole bunch of relatives and rivals with their own stories and goals.
Head canons ftw. B)

My first toon was my agent operative. Choose the SI due to stealth. They are great story lines. I don't RP but I do love the PvP. Just being able to kill other players, or get killed, is funny. Some take it way to seriously. They get really upset and say things but for the most part its a good time to be had.

Healer Operative?
I've had my share of fun PvPing with one of those, running around, cloaking and probing like mad while being chased by half the enemy team.

Concealment Operative DPS. Oh yeah. When I first played her, it was before the nerfs on the character. She was fierce. Could knock a guy face first and they would be dead without ever getting up. Then the nerfs came and now, her damage is low. The patch coming on Tuesday will buff her again which I am looking forward too. Want to get back into PvP with her. Its been a long time.

Oh yeah, I've been on the receiving end of that a few times, it felt like the days of WoW with Rogues stunlocking you the entire three seconds it takes them to kill you.
Killed my fair share of them too though, if the target can manage to break CC and knock back fast enough they have a chance. (of course the Op might just chicken out at that point and cloak until he can try his combo again)

That was pretty much the reason why the conc op were nerfed. Burst damage was unreal. I was able to hit 15k coming out of stealth. Higher with a critical. People went down and were never able to get up. The conc op also has a few stuns. I would stun, the target would break it, I would stun again then cap the turret or pylon. Team up two conc ops, then you can keep a single target stunned locked. Good times.

Really like the game, but like with many of the other MMORPGs these days, it is really easy to get to the endgame without ever interacting with other players. If you didn't have the general chat, you'd barely even realize there are other players around.

Most of the social interaction is too guild centered for me to experience too much of it. I just pop in do my class storyline and logout, maybe some healing or tanking in a flashpoint here and there, but I never see those people again.

Fun game, but would've been just as good, if not better as a singleplayer :P

Yeah what's this Legacy thing I keep hearing about?

Oh and does your ship come with it's own droid? :)

I'm lumbering around Kaas a lowly lv. 11 SS, can a free player do pvp?

Since you are on Kaas your Legacy should be unlocked, press "Y" the next time you are in game and the prompt will probably show up to ask you what you want to call your Legacy.
The Legacy is kinda like a last name, or a title (and you can display it like that too if you have the unlocks) - as they compared it once to the movies; Luke, Anakin/Vader, Leia, Han, Chewbacca could all be part of the Skywalker legacy.

You'll be able to link your characters together and declare their relationship with each other: friend, foe, sibling, offspring.
The Legacy system also gives you bonuses and special abilities across that Legacy as you unlock stuff, and as a whole makes your characters stronger.

Finishing unique companion storylines for example gives every character in your Legacy a permanent +10 Presence bonus, and some other bonuses too depending on what you've unlocked yet.
Presence is like charisma/leadership; it makes your companions stronger.
Fun stuff, and a good motivator for rolling alts (as if the stories weren't enough motivation yet!).

Also yes, a free player can PvP - you just can't do Galactic Starfighter yet until it goes live on Feb 4th, or you become a preferred or subbed player before then (headstart thing).

Yeah, it kinda surprises me they never made an RPG with that many "sides" to play (since each of the eight classes show you a different part of the greater conflict).
The closest thing so far has been DAO with the start of your adventure.

I prefer SWTOR as an MMO. I get to play with my husband and my best friend. Three nerds just hanging out, killing each other. XD

I like the achievements. My two latest titles are Galactic Explorer and Datacron Master. Working on Loremaster. :)

Agreed. Some of the stories like the SW and Imperial Agent deserved their own singleplayer game. They could do without the MMO stuff.

Totally! It would also then need its own James Bond-like theme song! B)

Oh yeah, definitely!
Provided Alexander Freed was in, it'd be a day one pre-order for me. ^_^

Only if you can have a female agent and not be stuck with one gender ala Alpha Protocol. Yeah.

And if the romances for female characters wouldn't be outright horrible in comparison to male ones. I'd love to have a female sentinel/marauder, but I am not keen on female Sith's voice and their romance options are quite boring in comparison to their male counterparts.

The male VA for the SW was much better than the female counterpart. I think it's the opposite for the Agent. Loved the female VA a little more than the male. She was just more snarky and witty. The male VA was good nonetheless.

Is it true we get titles?

IE either Jedi gets to become a Master, and the SI gets to be a Dark Lord?

Yep, there are various titles.
And yes, Master is one of them for Jedi - Sith get Lord and Darth.
Edit: Since we're talking iconic titles... I can't just leave out one of the most iconic ones... Padawan!

You also get legacy titles. My favorite in legacy is Living Legend. You get that from having level 50 in legacy. Events also give you titles. As well as missions. One of the best is found on Kaas when you complete the Revanite missions. You can become a Revanite. :) Also if you finish all heroic missions on the planet you can be Hero of.... There's also an overall achievement for getting them all and I think the legacy title is Galactic Hero. :)

That's awesome!

So my SI can become an eventual Darth? Do I get to pick a name?! :)

I had to google a bit of the game....but

Does the SI being on the dark council matter at all?

No, sadly you don't get to pick a name - you get assigned one depending on your alignment and actions if I'm not mistaken. (it's not visible though, it's just in some dialogues)
You can use the Darth title in front of your character name though.
And yes, your position will matter - a lot of NPCs will address you with the respect your position demands. :D
