A frail women smashing down a giant fortress door is what's unrealistic.

And you know Cassandra is frail.....how? Beside, on normal condition it's impossible regardless if you're frail or not.
I don't like the animation, but I don't find it more unrealistic than being chewed by a dragon and survive.

Yep
They can make swords as light as feathers and that cut plate armour effortlessly, there are no given rules to the universe

Although origins approach was acceptable

@vania z: as others stated, there's the Champion/Dragonborn shout in DAO. But there's more. The bard and ranger's talents are unrealistic. Some talents in the archer tree are unrealistic. Templars' talents are technically not realistic, since they should work only on mages.
Let's talk about the animations. Our merry band of companions can apparently survive being smashed by an ogre several times, when the game clearly shown in a cutscene (not that we should need it) that a single hit is enough to kill a man. Then, we have a huge dragon using us as a chewing gum, and we're able to survive.

I stated in op that there are unrealistic skills in dao and as example wrote about quake(earth smashing attack, which does damage to nearby creatures). It is not that I find dao perfect in everything, just that i find it more realistic than da2/dai. In my opinion, they should struggle to make game more serious and realistic, like bethesda does. They actualy want to cater for this audience, as far as I know.

Yes as giant ugly ass ****es that have tentpoles and the Insane clown Posie as enemies, while Mages with Fez hats on there heads suddenly burst into demons while a Sex pot one is imprisoned in a CATS BODY makes perfect ****ing sense.

And how does Bioware not cater to fans? The reason we have races is because they knew we wanted them

I was talking about TES fans. IIRC they were writing something about making game more like skyrim. Though they didn't make a single large map, they are trying to make bigger locations, with enough place to explore. Making game more realistic would be a next step. I don't understand why they go flashy over functional.

lol, it's a fantasy game with magic and monsters. I'm not going to ask for realistic combat. All I ask is for the combat to be at least as good as DAO. Just use DAO as a base, add in a unique skill tree for each companion like DA2, improve the animations, add new talents and specializations, and leave it at that.

@vania Z: I understand your point. The problem for me is that DAO's combat wasn't realistic. So it's irrelevant if they'll make it more similar to DAO, I'd still find it unrealistic. And I'll have to segregate the gameplay from the story.

With "realistic" combat, you need to roll a new character every time you get shot with an arrow after you die from blood loss or the resulting infection. You think they have antibiotics in Thedas?

They've got magic, it is even better than antibiotics.

It would be great if combat system was not similiar, but better than that of DAO.

Too realistic battles would be boring. Combat is a big part of games and it should be enjoyable not tedious tasks done traveling from point a to point b. Take the battles in Dragons Dogma for example, not very realistic but damn I've never had so much fun fighting in a game before.

I prefer DA:O's more down-to-earth combat aesthetic, yes. And would have rather seen it remove some of the over-the-top aspect than have those aspects totally take over.

edit:  Though really good looking combat needs more real interaction between participants, rather than just stabbing each other HP bars.

So far DAI looks awesome so far, I trust them to know what they're doing.
Origins didn't seem on the more realistic side to me just cause it was slower and a bit more tactical, It was more realistic than da2 though.

Honestly, I don't mind abilities like the chain pull just as I don't mind that dragons can actually fly.

However, I do want them to move back toward DAO on the combat animations. The whole jumping around and exploding bodies when stabbed with a dagger was really on the dumb side of things.

Yes, please add more weight to it too. Waving around a two-handed sword with one hand and blades passing through enemies without them reacting was dull. This is not a lightsaber. If you hit someone with the weight and force of a baseball bat, they are going to stumble and recoil even when its sharp.

YES. I have a bad feeling that it's not coming back, but it was such a satisfying way to end the combat. I always made sure to get the final blow on Flemeth, the high dragon and the archdemon for it, but I especially loved it on the ogres. Even humanoid enemies got a nice finish with the beheading.

Don't care. The only combat I actually like is reflex twitch based. To me pressing a button and having your character automatically hit or even run to an enemy and hit them no matter where you are facing is unrealistic and dull. I will trudge through this combat to get to the story and RP bits I like and the flashiness or anime-like animations do not really concern me.

More and more I think I'd prefer turn-based.  Or at least something where I don't have to do anything in real time.

I'm playing New Vegas now, which I've modded to give infinite Action Points, and using VATS for every single combat event is much better than real-time combat.

I hope that chain pull thing works on friendly characters. That way we could pull stunned or paralyzed characters out of danger with it.
