I apologize if this might be in the wrong topic, but I am still pretty new to the social forums and I'm sending out a plea for help.

The Caretaker, Suna Amlin, lost her battle to cancer October 30th last year and I have taken the reins. One special thing we would like to add is a statue to her memorial.

One of our players had painted Suna using Poser and has a 3d image of this, from what I understand, and would like that to be a statue, if possible. Is there anyone out there who would be kind enough to help us out asap?

This would be for Kissmet, and the picture that I'm referring to is posted on our forum
(the one on the left):

Please help!

Condolences....
Hopefully it is an older poser model with fewer polygons otherwise a retrofit of the model may be required. If one has the correct Poser software i/o it can be converted to a nwn placeable with a minimum of fuss using max or gmax. Upload the poser model (with textures) to the vault's projects' pages then, we (someone) can get a grip on it. Include as many file details as possible...

Killmonger, thank you. I really don't know all the details, so I have contacted Bill with your comments and hopefully he might be able to answer this fully and hoping someone would volunteer to do this statue for us.

This is Bill's Renderocity page. He is a long time player to Kissmet and asked me to ask around about possibly turning his painting into the statue, thus ... we have his permission. We are also making this into a placeable painting, but our experience is very small and no one knows how to create statues. We are not expecting an exact statue and so detailed, but a woman holding a baby dragon is all we're hoping for.

I'll post as soon as I hear from Billwht33

One of these days, I would love to join this CC team with my own gmax creations, but right now its just been a bit overwhelming in running a server, so really thank you all for your time in what you're all doing and we're working on haks to update Kissmet!! We have some CTP tilesets (love them!) as well as testing out Project Q. Thank you all so much for giving us so many wonderful content for such an old game, which we still love. My condolences for your loss. Alas I am not a 3d modeller. I produce things that are flat. I have therefor made you a poster using the picture that you posted a link to. You can download a 7z with the hak, a module demonstrating the poster in game and an erf file with the blueprint details. You can get it from my dopbox/public folder here. I hope this is of some small use to you.

Techy detail. The line in placeables.2da for this is 1000 in the placeables.2da in the hak.

If you like I can also do you an additional 5 versions that have the appearance of proper picture frames but that will have to be tomorrow now as it is nearly 3am here in the UK.

No worries Childe....
Because Bill used Poser what is required is the exact Poser model version plus any textures associated to that file. Also, as I recall, Poser also has various specific heads and clothing addons all of which would best be required within an exported file type that max could recognize (obj).
If that can be found an exact replica (as a nwn statue) can be made.
Alternately,
I presume that the head is an accurate representation of Suna so it would be one of the most important features of the model. The other stuff can be constructed from the various parts that are floating around. But if Bill's original Poser files can be found, it would give the most accurate results.
We are waiting here and will still be here monitoring for an update....

Oh yes! We are very familiar with that vault and the Tutorial is very helpful. Thank you!

Its quite a full job in learning the server maintenance, database, player requests, etc., but I'm doing okay. There are many wonderful and generous people out there who have been helping me.

I've been playing nwn since back in late 2004, on my first server called Rune. Not sure if anyone remembers that one anymore. Learned a lot and they gave me my first taste of the toolset with building areas, and my "specialty" is interior decorating. Homes. I love to remodel homes. I love placeables and items! Am still amazed that nwn1 is still popular with us "die-hards".

Thank you very much. I can't express how much I appreciate you all to taking time to do something like this for us. I have sent the file to one of our hak builders along with the details of the 2da and hopefully, in a few months, when all updated haks are finished, everyone will enjoy your work.

mmmmm.... have an idea of maybe taking an NPC likeness of her and apply the stone technique. Not the same as the painting of the Caretaker, but might work!

We all thank you for the paintings! The frames are very pretty.
Bill said he has gmax and might try his hand at statues, if we can't find someone to make one for us.
I also have a copy of gmax (but will have to see if its the latest version) as I have been thinking of my first project and that is to turn this into an interior. Think this is too much for my first project?

I have recently engaged a major Nwn project in max but I like the idea of statuary memorandum for your caretaker. If Bill becomes overwhelmed in gmax let us know and I'm confident that I or others will whip up a statue to your liking (Or at least help him do it himself).
Btw: I am still searching for my ancient copy of Poser...

Without knowing your skill set, your first project may need to be a bit less ambitious...however a grande ballroom would be in keeping with this month's Gothic CCC !!

Keep us in the loop...

I just read about February's CCC and *thunks head on desk* I don't have enough hours in the day to learn all this and be able to meet that deadline! I have no skill sets at all with gmax. I don't think I've ever opened it up. I'll just post this idea on that topic for someone else to take on, if someone wants an idea. Good luck finding your old copy of Poser and it will be a new experience for Bill, but its good that he wants to learn.

Gmax is a good platform. Read the Custom Content Guide v3 first !

The process of creation is actually pretty straightforward but nomenclature is crucial. (Also knowing where all the buttons and dials are....) You will find that the folks here are very knowledgeable and will help you (or Bill) to create your visions of new content.

In order to facilitate your first statue memorial consider this:
Fire up Gmax, install the NWgmax plugin
Prepare NwnMdlComp (a decompiler)
Import and study other statues....
Locate an appropriate model (dryad, Aribeth, or other) import it.
Remove all animations
Carefully position the model (rotations), if you scale anything be sure to Reset Xforms (under the Utility panel)
Place (translation) the whole thing upon a pedestal (a tapered cylinder) using the rootdummy to move all. Texture the pedestal and all the parts (a blue marble might be nice) Not just as easy as it sounds...Posted Image
Strip out all other parts nodes and hierarchy (unlink and then re-link all parts to the rootdummy)
Link the pedestal to the rootdummy and the rootdummy to an Aurora base (set to placeable)
Name it "plc_Caretaker"

Collapse all the various modifiers individually and apply an AuroraTrimesh to the group
Export with textures to a new folder
Now you have a very crude and basic placeable that could be seen in game (after appropriately editing the placeables 2da)

This recipe is a very incomplete way to create your memorial.
In no way does it address the many details that are also required. There is a learning curvePosted Image
All of those bells and whistles you will have to gleen for yourself (Bill)
Read the various guides, watch free tutorials on the net, ask questions ...
but most of all have some fun with it!!

Be well

billwht33 has joined the forums, and read your post and would like to post in reply, but can't seem to do so. Anyone can tell us how? Its been so long, I don't remember any issue that I had. He said he subscribed and gets the message of "cannot access this restricted area" and then wants him to log in again!

I have been here so long I can't remember for sure but have they checked their emails for one telling them how to activate their account? If they have activated it (or it didn't need to be activated) they are logging in aren't they? Otherwise I am at a loss here.

I think my problem posting was that it took a few days to get my account approved.

Thank you Killmonger. I am using Poser 7 and I have been able to export my image from Poser and import it into Gmax. Now I just have to get clear on what to do next.

I find that logging in is more reliable if I don't check "Remember Me".

Otherwise, it often happens that every new page on the site logs me out.

When posting, I always use the BBCode button to switch to plain text for reliability.

Ok Billwht3, glad to have you onboard! Welcome.Posted Image

Now here is where it gets interesting....
I will attempt to answer "what to do next":..

(I assume that the Ps7 model is in a neutral pose
If it is already posed from a Poser export that may obviate a few of the following steps)

First: Get undistracted for a few hours...days...
Second:  Be prepared to learn stuff...Here we go...
Download and read the skinmesh tutorial posted in the vault.
Familiarize yourself with your tools.... Install the newest Nwn gmax plugin (I think it's in the vault)
You are gonna do the same thing described in the skinmesh tutorial (using a biped or using bones).
My suggestion is bones, cause it will be a statue in the final analysis and it's easier to visualize in this recipe.
So depending on how tall your ps7 model is, find a Nwn model of about the same size. (c_Aribeth.mdl)
When you scale...Scale the poser model to the Nwn size and Reset Xforms on it, collapse the modifier upon the poser mesh before continuing.....
After the above Imports, centre the models at coordinate 0,0,0 So their feet touch the grid
I presume that the two models are in a similar pose.
If not, then carefully align the Nwn model to the Ps7`s relative position before the next step.Posted Image

Place a skinmesh modifier on the Ps7 model
In the side panel, include the entire Nwn model's anatomy as bones.
(You could already delete all the geometry that does not have a "_g" in it's name but don't break the hierarchy)
Edit the envelopes of your "bones" to include all the verts (red hue) on the Ps7 mesh, accurately, depending on the anatomy part. Take your time and re-read the help files If you are methodical it isn't too hard.Posted Image

Are you still with me? Posted Image
Once that is complete, then:
Carefully pose (rotate) the Nwn model's geometry to the position that you like for the statue.
The poser mesh should correctly deform as you rotate the various anatomy bits.
Incrementally save your file as you go...Posted Image
As you proceed, you will discover the value of linking to the rootdummy and helper dummys to move the mesh.
<Amongst many other things>
Once you have it to your liking, either refine the statue's [Poser model] position and import a small dragon (perhaps) to her left hand (Use scale and Reset Xforms on the dragon also)
For simplicity, I would pose the hand but leave out the dragon the first time around.
Careful which way you rotate the bones...Try not to badly "wrinkle" the poser mesh.Posted Image
Now the Poser model is positioned in gmax. Collapse the modifiers that are on the poser mesh.
Delete the underlaying Nwn model and all its' nodes completely.
The poser mesh should remain in the position that you chose.
Using the material editor, find a nice blue marble texture and properly apply it to the statue. (lol)...
Place your creation upon a plinth (that you also create or import and texture) and then:
Place AuraTrimesh modifiers on all the discreet geometry (two items? imo)...
Link the poser mesh to the plinth, and the plinth to a rootdummy, and the rootdummy to an Aurabase.
After all that, you have created an exportable Nwn model. Posted Image

However this recipe does not adhere to the best practices.
The statue does not have a pwk file and a few other important things.
It will probably have a very high polygon count too <so use it in a small area>
See the Elgio's guide for more details. (Or ask questions here)

There are also other entries required for the placeable to be set into the game.
Do not be discouraged...There is a lot to do to get it right.Posted Image
However, when you manage to get all that done you will have a decent beginner's monument.Posted Image
After a few attempts you will understand how to make the statue larger (plus other stuff).
Feel free to ask questions here on the forum as you go and study the works of those that have done similar things.
I believe I have herein covered the basics for you...
Posted Image

Trust me when I say that all of the above is easier said than done.
<It was even hard to type>
But by the end you will have developed a new set of skills that will impress others and get girls to admire you...
 Posted Image

Good luck...

All of the above assumes that you must have a perfect poser based statue...
It would be quite striking...
However, if you're less motivated a simpler posed re-skin of a Nwn c_dryad or c_elf might suit your desires more quickly.

Sorry if I was a bit verbose
I was deep within the "virtual machine" when I saw your post.
