Ok we can play as Qunari that much has been made very clear what I want to know is are we able to play as members of the same species who have abandoned the Qun: the Tal-vashoth. Bioware has stated that Tal-vashoth are not Qunari and as far as I am aware Bioware has only stated that you can play as the Qunari. So do you think that we will only be able to play as Qunari, only play as Tal-vashoth, be able to play as both or that Bioware has been playing us and we are only going to be able to play as a human/dwarf/elf who has chosen to become a Qunari and not one of the grey skinned, horned race?

Personally I think its very likely we will get to play as a Tal-vashoth firstly because following the Qun would likely restrict role-playing and secondly how else would we be able to play as a grey skinned, horned mage (Qunari mages have to controlled by an arvaarad which would some what limit the roleplaying experience)?

I'm pretty sure all Qunari race will be Tal-vasoth since Qunari actually has pretty strict guidelines.

I'm wagering you'll play as a Kossith (archaic term for the horned people) born outside the Qun.
Edit: It seems I have a correction monkey lurking beneath me. :bandit:

You play a Qunari (race), not a qunari (religion).
You're a Vashoth (not part of the Qun), Tal-Vashoth if you're a danger to the Qun

I think we will most definitely play as Tal-Vashoth. Because the Qunari don't let their Women leave the country or go to war under any circumstance. Therefore there is no other justification other than being a Tal-Vashoth.

Qunari can refer to members of the horned giant species that are not part of the Qun. Followers of the Qun consider it an improper usage, but the devs have assured us it is so.

Playing as a follower of the Qun would be such a radical departure from any other race origin that its unlikely to be an option. Most likely we will play as a horned giant born outside the Qun or, less likely, a Tal Vashoth that has violently revolted against the Qun.

EDIT:   What Gaider said

All PC Qunari are Tal-Vashoth.

Wouldn't being Tal-Vashoth mean that the PC acted with violence (physical or otherwise) against the Qun?

Or is it more the PC is a Vashoth? maybe with the choice of becoming a Tal-Vashoth down the line?

I'm curious:)

Mr. Gaider, I always assume Qunari born outside the Qun are just called Qunari while the Tal-Vashoth are those who abandoned the Qun, so when you said Tal-Vashoth, does it mean we're ex-quanri?

I wouldn't expect him to answer that, but a Tal Vashoth as a violent rebel makes certain presumption about the PC personality, so I'd say born outside the Qun is more likely.

Its an easy story:

Say, a priestess and soldier conceive a child outside Qunari practices and decide to flee with the child rather than face punishment and separation.  It leaves more room for the player to decide their values.

Mary tells me that the PC would technically just be Vashoth. Either way, it's a distinction that's only going to be relevant to the Qunari themselves. Everyone else will simply say "Qunari", no matter where you were born.

Good to know that my speculation of the Inquisitor is a Vashoth and bit and Tal-Vashoth is true. Thanks Mr. Gaider:).

Oh, ok, thanks for the clarification. I think it makes it a lot clearer now that the Qunari is Vashoth. :)

Actually, I would love to play a Qunari orphan raised by dwarves. He/She would be afraid of falling into the sky and say things like "By the ancestors!" and "Sodding surfacers!". I was always fascinated by the possibility of "two-worlds" characters. A dwarf raised by the dalish would also work ...

If this were the case I'd have to name my Quanari Carrot. :D

Makes sense the Inquisitor wouldn't be under the Qun, or else who would give them the power to make major decisions anywhere but in Par Vollen.

Such an Inquisitor might be an excellent opportunity to show the players something of the distinctions between Qunari, Tal Vashoth, and Vashoth qunari and settle some arguments that have refused to die.

Even the writers hate using that term, it's ridiculous how much this community loves using that name.

I'm now imagining a "Who's on first?" sketch in DAI involving the word "Qunari"

They get annoyed when we correct people using the word Kossith too. They just hate to see us children argue.
