I cannot decide between playing as a human or a qunari.

Playthrough 1: Dwarf, finish the game
Playthrough 2: Human, get bored quickly, restart
Playthrough 3: Qunari, get bored quickly, restart
Playthrough 4: Elf, get bored in the character creator, restart
Playthrough 5: Dwarf again. Ah, that's better. Finish the game.

You might want to wait and see what sort of information is given during character creation and perhaps look through the different CC options for each race, and then make your decision. It might be that, while you are designing a Qunari or human that one will just grab you, and you'll feel compelled to play the game as that person.

LOLZ!

It's actually a good method. A coin flip suggests that you don't care what the result is. But if on seeing the result you want to flip again, or realize that you dislike it, then you know that you actually did care what the result was and so did have a preference.

I'm just going to play the game with every combination of race and gender. maybe double down on the ones I particularly enjoy.

I'm definitely playing as a Qunari my first playthrough. I'll probably then create an elf the second time playing, but I'm kinda leaning towards making a dwarf lady after seeing that head model thing of all the races.

I also can't decide if my first playthrough will be Elf or Qunari mage. I'm leaning towards Elf, but...XD

I tell you what the decision won't be easy that is for sure. I'll most likely go with human female first round. I will do all of them eventually.

Image IPB Ummm, was I referring to the LI, perhaps!  Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB.    Seriously, I will play all races and genders to see what happens.

On a side note, I hate the thought of my female dwarf having a relationship with Alistair.  I think we'll be friends only.  I was thinking of doing another human female and just being friends and see how that plays out with me being chancellor.   Just sayin'.  Back to the original topic! Image IPB

Well.... I've been going through the games again to experiment with different world states and not have the same classes in a row, so right now in my "cannon" game, I should play a mage.

However, thinking of the awesomeness of all the races (especially elves-dwarves-qunari), I think I may just take and modify a hint from Mr Schumacher and drop some dice for a race/class combo.

It all comes down to what ass you want to spend 30-40 hours looking at.

You might get the odd "special" reaction to your race but knowing Bioware's present history, they don't like people missing out on content because of a choice made. So unless you hardcore role play it shouldn't make much of a difference.

They actually seem to be going the opposite direction with DAI, stating so far that you may miss entire portions of areas based on a decision. Your race, class, and specialization are also said to be having more of an impact this time around.

I think you made a few mistakes there.  Allow me to fix them.

Playthrough 1: Elf, kill the shems and finish the game
Playthrough 2: Qunari, crush the idiots and call everyone 'bas', finish the game
Playthrough 3: Dwarf, romance Varric, finish the game
Playthrough 4: Human, get tired of being human, delete character
Playthrough 5: Elf again.  Crush the shems and give the elves a homeland once again
Playthrough 6: Dwarf, get tired of being short, delete character
Playthrough 7: Qunari, same as first but as a mage, finish the game
Playthrough 8: Back to Elf again.  Kill the shems again and finish the game.

I'll allow it (because we're all different people with different tastes!), but really, they should all have "romance Varric", regardless of race/class/gender.

Playthrough 1: Human Rogue. Deadpan snarker.
Playthrough 2: Human Mage. Heavily modified version of the above.
Playthrough 3: Human Mage. Evil Overlord-ish.
Playthrough 4: Human Warrior. Jerk with a heart of... something.
Playthrough 5: Human Warrior. Templar.
Playthrough 6: Human Rogue. A marksman in for the money.
Playthrough 7: Human female. Class undetermined.

That's how I think it will go, more or less.

At first I was set on playing as a Qunari, but now, human is starting to feel appealing again.

I am very interested in reading about real life history such as the Templar Crusades. And now with the ability to play as a human leading the Inquisition which feels like a religious monastic military order (that does not make it so, however) yet I think about playing as a human who leads the Inquisition as a military order on its own crusade against magic, traitors and demons, or whatever it will face in DAI. Is anyone a bit conflicted about what race and how they will lead their Inquisition? I am very excited to seeing more news from DAI when the Dev diaries get released.

Why decide? Play them ALL to see how the game is. :wizard:

1. Canon playthrough as a human mage
2. Playthrough as a Kossith mage
3. If the Elves play an interesting part on the story then: Playthrough as an Elf mage

This all assuming the game will be worth the effort, which I'm very cynical that it will.

Can't you play both? Play a human on one playthrough and a qunari on the other?

im all for being a qunari.... the point im trying to get across is that you can be anything and be a qunari. that is all.

Youre point just complicates the thread for something most of us already know. The devs are referring to the race as "Qunari" to avoid confusion so no need for the endless debate

what was tallis then? or all the elves in the qunari uprising. or even the vicounts son? arent they just as worthy of the title Qunari? andif most of you know it then I wouldnt be confusing any of you who know this already.

Tallis was a Mary Sue, the others were Viddithari.

Spoken as if we don't play the most shameless Mary Sue characters in the series.

The first playthrough, I will play as Qunari simply because I've never really had the chance to do so in the past.  Probably a Qunari mage.  Either a blood mage or a shapeshifter.  Second playthrough, I'll probably role a human Templar.
