I'm ok either way. I enjoyed both origins in DA:O and don't have a preference for DA:I.

If I had to choose one or the other, I guess I'd pick Dalish my first time as an Elf Mage.

I'll end up playing as both eventually :)

The City Elf and Circle elf Wardens had options for Andrastianisms and prayer at Chantries. My Surana was Andrastian, so I took advantage of that. Hopefully those options will be in DA:I too. Actually, since finishing Asunder and noticing Lambert's elven page, I wonder if we'll ever see any elven templars.

BTW, I notice that a lot of people have an issue with Dalish using the term "flat-ear", but did you know the City Elves use it too? In a similar way, actually. But City Elves use it to describe elves who try to live outside the alienage...and probably those who marry outside their race. And obviously City Elves also refer to humans as "shems" when they want to be insulting.

Wait, I rember reading that Elves were bared from serving in Chantries since the Exalted March against the Dales. Lambert was aparently pro Elf... now I feel bad about him being dead.

Yeah, I felt kinda conflicted about Lambert towards the end, for a few reasons.  I like that in a character.

 ALWAYS Dalish.

I love such a proud people who don't believe in being held down. I also like to play Nice/benevolent Dalish Elves to shock everyone. I think I changed alot of people opinons on the Dalish because my Maheriel was just so merciful and sweet to them.

I love playing devout Tabris characters, it's great when the Revered Mother in Redcliff is shocked that your happy to help save a village of humans and ask for her blessing.

I'd rather be a city elf, thought Dalish elf has its promises. I don't find the Dalish very likable, since they seem to be highly hostile to anyone not Dalish. True, people have said city elves have a similar attitude towards the Dalish, but in DA2, they welcome the Dalish outcasts, and seem to even respect the Dalish Keeper.

On the other hand, being part of a suspicious and insulated culture would make for some fun interactions throughout the game.

While I will favor city elves over Dalish if I must choose, I'd rather have both experiences.

Yea it seems like it's more of a cultural thing if you pay attention to both the city elves in DA:O and DAII. Also, Zeveran states that the Dalish in Antiva are even more hostile than the ones in Ferelden. So, I'd rather be a Ferelden Dalish than an Antivan one.

Besides both Origins are great (in addition to the Dwarf Commoner Origin) where you start from nothing and work your way to greatness. Sort of a "little fish in a big pond" story.

As long as we don't come from keeper Marethari's clan I'll be happy with a dalish elf. I don't mind a city elf either, due to my warden is a city elf.

I think I want the third option, which would be protoelf. One of the original elves who has spent last fifty tho... (ops, wrong story) few thousand years deep frozen somewhere in deep roads, and just weeks ago got melted.

You'd still likely be dead as there aren't reports of any elves that were in the long sleep when arlathan fell ever waking up.  Plus you'd likely be pilled on by Tevintar Assasssins before you can tell the dalish anything, or you could end up being a Javik, where your nearly useless for information on the arlathan elves.

It's fun to play outside expectations! My favorite Dalish playthrough I played like Rapunzel from Disney's Tangled (though I don't think it was out yet) He was spunky, humorous, sheltered, and super excited to see the world and meet new people and cultures. Good times :D

Huh, I'd completely forgotten that city elves use the term "Flat-Ear" as well. Then again, I did only pick up Origins again recently after a few years of it collecting dust on my shelf. I'll have to do a City Elf playthrough once I finish with my Dalish Warden.

YES! That is why I want to play as a Qunari version of Miley Cyrus in DAI. Obnoxious, Random, and Half-Naked FOR THE WIN!'

Cassandra: Put some clothes on Inquistor! And stop Twerking!

Yeah I prefer the city elves myself, and it's my second favorite origin in DA:O. The Dalish are pretty off-putting in general, though the Dalish in DA:O were a bit more welcoming once that quest over. Merrill is pretty much the only one I genuinely like out of the whole lot of them, and I thought it was amusing and surprising how her companion quest could result in wiping out the entire clan. I can't say I even regretted that outcome.

Yes, I was shocked in DA2 when the clan attacked Hawke and party. O_o

I'm prepared for it to be a city elf, just because I'd be amazed if they have more than one voice actor per gender for the Inquistor, and since DA2 decided Dalish elves have welsh accents, they wouldn't be able to share voice actors with any other race.

But I would rather be a Dalish elf.

The only likable Dalish you meet in a non-Dalish playthrough is Lanaya, and she was born as a City Elf.

City Elf for me.
