Hopefully the choice exists for both, depending on class. Bioware said mages have different backstory than warriors/rogues, and said Elf Mage was Dlaish, so hopefully that means an Elf Warrioor/Rogue is a City Elf.

I prefer a city elf because I feel like there is more room to play around with backstory. For example, my "Canon" inquisitor is a city elf with dalish blood on her mother's side ( or she will be if bioware doesn't force you to be dalish.) and was raised with a certian level of elvish pride that could cause trouble in a city setting. What can I say, I like conflict.

It seems to me that having them all be Dalish would be easier because you would only need to write and voice one origin for the elves.

there are no origins, only back stories. that said I would like that they introduce some kind of middle ground type of elf group. they desire greater equality and more respect but don't cling to the lost traditions that led to the downfall of their ancestors
