The whole Kaidan/Ashey thing is so subjective because it's an emotional argument. One person can say they were fully right to not give a Shepard a chance given the circumstances while another may say friendship/romance demands more from them. I happen to be more in the latter category; at least if we expect loyalty from them that's given by characters like Garrus, Tali, Chakwas, and Joker. Also, that's keeping in mind that Kaidan/Ashley were aware of the reaper threat as well and knew the Alliance they served was doing nothing about it. I'd feel a moral/survival obligation to at least consider a group that presumably is trying to stop them.
This is totally true and why I also don't want to let this discussion go on in circles
It doesn't really lead anywhere, but it's interesting to see other perspectives of this issue of course.
And I also guess the Shepards you play can/will act differently. They can understand why Kaidan/Ash treated them like that, but they can also be bitter about it and doubt their loyalty/friendship. I think I can see myself creating a character that sends Kaidan away in ME3 instead of letting him join.
Yeah, the thing about being aware of the Reaper threat... I'm coming to that next.
But the blame of inaction could be shared with everyone but Cerberus ironically. The Alliance did nothing. The council did nothing. Wrex (if he lives) goes back to Tuchanka with his breeding plans. Garrus becomes the Punisher. Liara becomes obsessed with the Shadow Broker. You'd think the reapers indoctrinated them to not care about their impending invasion. It's only in the intermediary time between ME2 and ME3 that several of them (Garrus and Liara) do everything in their power to prepare while Shepard ironically does nothing and surrenders to politics; a choice I didn't like being forced to follow.
Yes, I agree totally. Everyone acts like the Reaper threat just went away. They should know better, and it's one of the points I really dislike. I don't know, the writers could've maybe given someone (Liara would be best for this I guess) their objective then already to look for something that possibly can deal with the Reapers, not let it magically happen in the first few minutes of ME3. Maybe this has to do with Shepard being so special again that no one can do something on their own.
But then of course the writers also possibly didn't know yet how Shepard will defeat the Reapers at this point of development. It just would've made sense to have someone at least start looking for something to deal with them, since we're pretty much told from the beginning they can't be defeated conventionally.
Speaking of which, regarding Shepard's reasons for working with Cerberus, it's also because the game made me! jk lol I never made a Shepard who gave much fuss about it.
Yeah Shepard sees pretty quickly the Alliance doesn't give a sh*t anymore, heh. Maybe I could see it different too if I'd play a Shepard that would be very pro-human and starts trusting TIM. I could not bring myself to do that yet ![]()
