I'm a huge fan of rpgs, for one. I am always on the lookout for a good fantasy rpg. I'm also a giant fan of character creation. The largest reason I started playing Dragon Age, however, was for the romances. I then got sucked in by the story, and now I'm doomed to stalk the franchise for eternity.
What drew you to the Dragon Age series?

"Mom you should try this game I just got called Dragon Age."
"Sure, if you give me 10 bucks."
I started playing it on the PS3, moved to the computer, discovered mods and got hooked. The story, characters and romances drew me in. I think I have over a dozen playthroughs compared to my sons 1 1/2. I also like DA2, despite its many flaws.

Haha, yeah. You're right. I'm a newcomer. I joined the fandom in early February. I didn't get to play games as a kid, so now that I'm an adult and out of the house, I'm able to feed my slight Dragon Age obsession. This is my first time ever waiting for a game to come out. How the rest of you survived so many years of wait is beyond me!

My ex boyfriend asked for DAO as a birthday present, back in 2009. I got it for him, he told me it was very good and everything, but... I never really investigated further, as my computer back then wasn't really that great for videogames and, while I did love RPGs, I didn't feel like buying something I couldn't play in a decent way ![]()
Later on, I completely forgot about it, until a few months ago: I read some people's posts in The Sims community talking about the game and how great it was, remembered about it, and finally decided to give a look into it. I finally had a better computer and had already played the hell out of Skyrim, so I was in search for something else to play. Found the Ultimate Edition on super sale on Steam, got totally hooked to the point that I *had* to buy DA2 and the books right after finishing the first game
currently reading The Stolen Throne!
...In english, 'cos the italian translations of the books are really, really cringeworthy D: I got the italian version of Asunder and... wrong conjugations, missing or wrong subjects, spelling errors that would make a first grader laugh and so on -__- I. just. couldn't.

I hadn't even heard of Dragon Age Origins or played any Bioware games. In fact, I was never really a fan of fantasy-based games so DAO wouldn't have been on my list anyways. My dad is a fan of those kinds of games, though, and he bought Origins when it first came out. Funny enough, he stopped halfway through his game because he didn't really like it. It was only after that and watching him play a few scenes that I finally decided to give it a shot and roll my first character.
I've been a huge fan ever since. DAO is what made me look into other Bioware games and got me playing Mass Effect also. No regrets!

It was pretty much like the Fallout series/Mass Effect for me I was standing in a shop when I saw the front cover. I decided to buy it and was hooked ever since. Stumbled on it by accident really.

I saw it on steam for 25 euros, it looked rather nice. DAO is also what got me to start playing Mass effect when I saw that they were both made by bioware.

I liked Mass Effect so I decided to buy Dragon Age Origins: Ultimate Edition since they were made by the same people.

I thought DAO was going to be an action-RPG like Jade Empire. Boy was I disappointed when I learned otherwise. Still, I loved the characters and stories of earlier Bioware games, and DAO did not disappoint in that regard.

"Spiritual successor to Baldur`s Gate" - that`s what drew me.
The story, the lore and the characters got me completely hooked.

Mass Effect, I guess ![]()
And people were also talking the whole time about DA, so I decided to give it a try. Didn't regret it, either =)

Actually, for me it was a complete accident^^ See, I was at this retail shop for games with my mum and a friend, we were just out shopping and I drew them in there because I wanted a new game... So we just walk through the aisles, but nothing really catches my eye. Then out of the blue my mum comes up to me with DA:O in her hand and says: 'Look, that seems like something you'll enjoy! It has dragons and everything!"
But I was still suspicious, after three tries to buy a new game (all three of them complete failures on my part), so I walked to the owner of the shop and asked him if he thought it was good. And he gets the strangest expression and says: 'It's the best **** game since the invention of gaming!'
So I thought, 15 € isn't that much money, I'll just try it out.
Went home, started gaming at 6pm and forced myself to stop at 7am the following day, because I needed some sleep. Slept three hours, woke up, played again. I was basically off the planet for a week or two... survived on junk food, got fat, only stood up from my couch if I really had to... it was awesome!
And that was the wonderful tale of how my mother picked up my all-time favourite game^^ I even got her to try it too, but she's not one for console gaming^^ Anyway, been happily gaming for a bit more than a year now (I know, I'm terribly late^^)... I still owe her for that, even though she now curses herself, because I've been lost in the Dragon Age unverse for quite some time now and I infected all my friends to play it too *gg* Now me and my buddies sit around and discuss a game my mum knows nothing about, it annoys the hell out of her *lol*
But that's it, nothing really 'drew' me to Dragon Age, it wasn't something I heard of or anything, just a lucky break for me in a retail shop in my hometown, picked up by my mum of all people *laugh*

Originally Mass Effect.
I enjoyed that so much that I put faith into a completely unconnected product from the same company(I had played the majority of Bioware games in the past, I just didn't know that I had)
The reason I continue playing for the most part it's the stories and the changing world. It's why I've played DA:O several times and DA:2 a few.

I love medieval fantasy. I'm not big into video games to begin with so unless it has a medieval fantasy theme I won't even bother with it. I enjoy the Elder Scrolls games, Dragon's Dogma and both the Dragon Age games. Origins is my favorite though. :3

Sten. I was starting to get bored with Dragon Age when I found him in Lothering. I found him interesting, so I freed him. I asked him about his people, expecting the normal world-building spiel, and he said "No". That was it. He didn't try to justify it, he just wasn't going to tell me. With a single word he made it clear that I would have to earn any information he gave. I wanted to earn his respect and his answers. I enjoyed debating with him about the world of Thedas, and he enjoyed it, too. I genuinely cared what he thought about me. To this day, I don't consider a DA:O playthrough a success if I don't have 100 approval with Sten.
The information he gave revealed a philosophy so intriguingly alien that I could never hear enough about it. Sten created and fueled my ongoing obsession with the Qun. It's the Qun that keeps me coming back to Thedas. I don't agree with much of it, and I would certainly never convert, but I find it utterly fascinating.

Luck. Got xbox 360 in 08, had Fallout 3, Oblivion and ME and a couple of others. Day DA:O came out was in wallyworld on release day and saw the game, had not even known it was coming out. Have been buying BioWare/black isle games since the mid 90s.

It was from the creators of mass effect so i figured it would be a amazing game just like mass effect filled with good story, mysteries, characters, areas, etc but just in a fantasy past. So i have a future like sci-fi game and a past like fantasy game in which I can switch when I get bored of the other one. It was the perfect combo. I like games where things are a mystery and the whole truth isnt really known or understanded.
