 So I am just starting the first mass effect on ps3. I want to play an infiltrator but I also want hacking to be my bonus talent. I started an engineer only to find out I had to put points in sabotage to unlock hacking. That is fine I guess but I read about how you can get the hacking achievement at the fight with fist by reloading. However my problem is that even though I put every point I can into sabotage I am never a high enough level to unlock hacking before the fight against fist. Am I missing opportunities for exp somewhere? Or is it just not possible on a very first run through of the game?

Thanks for any clarification you all can provide.

If you are talking about putting points into AI Hacking before the fight against Fist, it may not be possible on a first playthrough. Unlocking certain achievements (such as Power Gamer or Extreme Power Gamer or whatever they are called) will net you extra XP as you progress through the game.

If you are willing to stick it out a little longer, (WARNING: MINOR SPOILERS), you will soon unlock the Normandy again and you can use it to travel to Feros and another planet called Therum where you will fight a lot of geth right away. Depending on how many points you have to spend, i recommend getting at least Advanced Hacking so you can hack more geth.

Other than that, there is not a whole lot more i can do to help you. I am not sure how many quests you completed prior to Fist. Did you:
- Scan all the Keepers?
- Scan the Quasar machine in Flux and track down the signal?
- Get Jenna out of Chora's Den?
- Complete Shiara's quest?
- Not sure if it is available before Fist, but I think you can solve the Hanar/CSec Officer conflict without Charm/Intimidate by giving the Hanar credits and that will net you XP as well.

There is quest for Dr. Michel, but I think you can only complete that one after the fight with Fist.

that is all I can think of off the top of my head. I think all other Citadel quests open up/can only be completed after the fight with Fist.

Wow I had no idea there were some of those quests.... Just shows you how new I am to mass effect. Thanks a lot for the information!

I'm also on PS3 and I also did a Hacking Infiltrator for my first full playthrough. I queued up an Engineer and did everything I possibly could on the Citadel prior to attacking Fist and was able to unlock hacking right before storming Chora's den. So it is definitely possible.

It requires level 7 (if I remember correctly) before it will let you dump enough points in Decryption to unlock Hacking.
