To be honest, I never really got why Sidious had to be the most powerful dark lord ever. Chances are we'll see someone in the new trilogy of movies that'll make Sidious look much weaker in comparison simply by having better effects to use for force powers and such. Then again, Sidious wasn't that impressive at the end of the prequel trilogy either.
To be honest, all of his real power was featured in the EU. And even then, we have Sith that make Sidious look very weak. I mean, for God's sake, Naga Sadow could create a freaking supernova. The Sith Emperor devoured the life of an entire world so that he could have effective immortality.
Yep, I can list Sidious in the top most powerful Sith but he's nowhere near the top 3
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is non-canon

I wouldn't say Star Wars is ruined. I'm actually glad that the post-ROTJ EU is gone, though I liked some of it.

What made Sidious very powerful was his intelligence and how he outsmarted everyone. Indeed. Sidious might not have been the strongest in terms of raw destructive powers, he certainly was one of the most cunning and intelligent. If you had read the Darth Plagueis novel, it blew me away how he had manipulated his mentor for decades, with no one the wiser.

In terms of raw power Naga Sadow, Darth Andeddu, Freedon Nadd and Marka Ragnos would destroy him
Even Darth Nhilius would destroy him

Most powerful "in terms of deceitfulness"? That makes no sense.
Yes, Darth Sidious is the most powerful Sith Lord whoever lived, as George Lucas put it. Even if George isn't in control of Star Wars anymore (I'd still argue that him and LucasFilm have a lot of control over it still), everything in the EU isn't canon anymore. Some elements from it may be used in future movies or TV shows, but that's up to the people at LucasFilm to decide. It's that simple. With the EU non-canon, that practically makes Darth Sidious the most powerful by default.

He probably could, since Yoda basically overpowered him with the force and Mace Windu overpowered him in saber combat

I think he was holding back after that fight, Mace is pretty much THE best saber master in that era

Indeed. Mace was the only Jedi who really mastered Vaapad, after all. However, I wish we could have seen Sidious do more lightsaber combat. I still get chills watching him fight with dual blades in The Clone Wars.AresKeith wrote...

Altough I didn't quite understand it... Was the Original Starkiller that one that kills everyone when chosing the Dark Side Path on FU2? (Can't remember if it's everyone, still...)
Ah, also, I think that was actually suposed to happen, since, heck, Starkiller killed, like lots of people from the Old Jedi Order AND even met Yoda.
SW:TFU had potential, and I hope it's compensated in Rebels
Edit: Fixed typo

Sidious is the only one who's managed to destroy the Republic and defeat the Jedi Order -- Evidently, Vitiate did not succeed in any of his plans because the so-called 'canon' dictates so. Besides, It doesn't matter who can fire lightning out of ones arse in the best fashion -- If Lucas says that Sidious is the most powerful Sith and Luke is the most powerful Jedi then that's all there is to it. Personally, I'd say the Exile is the most powerful Jedi & Nihlus is the most powerful Sith but that's that.Mr.House wrote...

No, I think the whole thing is that the original Starkiller did indeed die. The Dark Side one in FU2 who kills everyone was a clone created prior to the playable clone in FU2.
