Venom doesn't make heads asplode.

Anyway, my favorite anti-Phantom strategy is Singularity - Talon to face - Shockwave.  Phantoms fly farther this way then they do with the Venom.

For Krogan, I prefer to carry a Claymore and Falcon.  I put the Mag and Omni-Blade on the Falcon, which allows me to stagger-melee Phantoms (or a lot of other stuff too).  It also frees my Claymore up to be set up for maximum destruction.

I also find it acceptable to have a 15 second cooldown on my Carnage/Incinerate, which I only use to detonate occasional explosions anyway.

Crusader X, HVB+ Omniblade. The best of two world, imo: covers both long and short range engagements.
No incinerate, no carnage but 'nade all the things.
Put Juggernaut shield on and show those pyjacks how Krogans do it.
Permarage, permalaughters, permaslaughter.

Your method doesn't stagger them when you whip it out.

I have compensating to do. ;)
