From this article - http://culturemob.co...tious-beautiful

"They have also announced that the Mass Effect 4 would be taking place in a new fictional world. It will be a totally fresh and new universe."

My husband is excited because he says it will be like "Final Fantasy" where the various stories take place in different fictional universes where one story line doesn't affect the other.  I think this is kind of a cop out, personally.  I knew it would be really tough to incorporate all the choices from these three mass effects into another story in the same universe.  But you think it would be easy enough to explain away given that you have all of time to choose a starting point for ME 4.  Mass Effect has always been somewhat based in science, so is this supposed to be a multi-verse theory?  or is it just going to be like a do-over?

I guess we will have to wait and see.  I am still a tried and true fan, up for a good new game... but I am skeptical about this approach and a little disappointed.

What are your initial thoughts?

"There is a realm of existence so far beyond your own, you cannot even imagine it."

"What if this--like, everything you're seeing now--is a simulation?"

Wake up.

Breathe.

It's a 'new universe' all right... but it'll be Mass Effect-y... I guarantee it.

The article is quite poor. The writer says..."According to him, the game is ambitious, beautiful and fresh, but not recognizable." When the actual tweet was "Great time playing the next Mass Effect game in Montreal. Ambitious. Beautiful. Fresh but recognizable. And fun! " Lots of other issues but simply not worth the effort to get into, I also suspect the writer is getting confused with new IP.

Glad to hear it might just be a bad article. I had just Googled news for ME4, but hadn't been following on Twitter... And its been a little while since I posted on here so I guess I'm a little behind the times!

It's not going to be a literal new universe.

Sure hope its not.

Why not just create a new IP then?

It's going to be a Mass Effect game in the same universe.

Just maybe a new version of it. I hope it'll be enjoyable!

By new universe, they mean unrelated to past games. No attachment to Shepard and the Reapers and whatnot; it doesn't mean they're going to go Final Fantasy and establish a new continuity.

The most likely "new universe" approach is "Races, now united, build an inter-galaxy relay, letting them access Andromeda and all its problems" and then setting it in Andromeda with all the ME races that they can handle.

Also, can we all take a moment to ask ourselves what approach to the next ME game -isn't- a cop out? PRequel, sidequel between 1 and 2, sequel with cannonized ending... It all sounds copish to me. Frankly, that idea I just threw out is the best I've heard yet.

All meaningless slogans and phrases to my ears.

I'm just not going to think about it until it comes out.

As others have pointed out, it does not make sense to change the "universe" so i think the article is confused. It´s going to be in Mass Effect universe, as we know it, but just different timeframe.

It is a contradiction to say different universe withint the mass effect universe....it´s nonsense.

A new universe for Mass Effect...? Is J.J Abrams making this game?

Doesn't even need to be another universe, another galaxy would be enough already.

Exactly, and with sci fi there are a lot of different story arcs that could be taken to get there.

Beerfish is on the right track. Kind of. IMO.

But I wouldn't expect it to be an entirely new galaxy..

I agree that there are a ton of story racha and unlimited space/time options to choose from. I am excited. I guess we will have to wait and see f they mean a literal universe (like a multi-verse theory) or if this article is truly just not "getting it". Lol - to the shot of morphine.
