So it's been 10 years since Origins and Alistair still doesn't have a wife I can't imagine its because of a lack of suitors. There are quite a few landless nobles he could marry and if all else fails, marry a foreigner like Eamon did. Considering that his calling at this point is coming up in the next decade or so you would expect at him to try to find a spouse ASAP, but there doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency to it. Im sure he remembers the last time a monarch died childless and heirless.

Apparently the Ferelden Monarchy is the topic of the moment...

Yeah..there is some question about that if you didn't set him up with Anora or you had your female Noble shack up with him. If he doesn't settle with someone soon I would imagine a lot of political turmoil amongst the Fereldan nobles.

He doesn't want to be married?
He says he either doesn't want a pretend wife...to a romanced warden. Or that he wants to be the one to chose who he marries...maybe he just hasn't found one he likes.

If you're referring to King Alistair that rules alone, then that's understandable, otherwise he can marry Anora or a female noble Warden in Origins. The only child he'll have is the one Morrigan conceived during the DR. Short of adopting, the taint greatly reduces his chances of having an heir.

It doesn't really leave him sterile, more it significantly reduces the chance of him having a child with a non warden.

If you don't marry him or get Anora to marry him, then yeah, why hasn't he.

Yea but Alistair doesn't know that the only child he can have is the OGB. Fiona had a kid while she was a Warden so Wardens can have children. Maybe Alistair remembers what is was like to grow up a fatherless bastard and doesn't want his kid to grow up like that.

Meh. It'll be interesting if the OGB or if somehow Alistair does have another kid, come into play in DAI. Right now I'm more curious about what happened to him after the Warden disappears if a female noble married him.

I can see there's some confusion here regarding Wardens and children.

From David Gaider...

A Grey Warden can have a child... just not with another Grey Warden. So
in the case of Alistair being married to a female PC the only possible
result is no heir (unless Alistair has a child with someone other than
his wife, I suppose). Grey Wardens have a limited chance of conception
with a non-Grey Warden, but it does happen... and the child is not
tainted in any fashion.

It is to appease the fangirls, Alistair can't get married without the player's permission, if he did then it would undermine his love for the player character, Alistair must have eyes for me alone and no other woman otherwise I would rather see him get served up to the Archdemon while our love is still true!

It would have been funny to have had Alistair knock up Isabela during the comic series.

Alistair always shirks his responsibility when it doesn't mesh with his own desires. It seems to be a problem with Theirin men.

I hadn't heard this, do you happen to have the link?

That makes no sense! Not having the ruler of fereldan have a direct heir is a recipe for political disaster, atleast in the real world.  In another 10 years Alistairs calling will be nigh at hand,  and if he dies then anora is the next in line for succession (probably driven mad in the tower). The Therin blood line will be lost save for maybe the ogb, and thats a big maybe.

And that leaves who? at that point its a real free for all at the landsmeet far as I can tell. Eamon or Teagon will be real old, and are only related to Cailin's mother so they have no real claim to the Therin blood line. Cvil war is likely.

Alistair or Anora should have a direct successor lined up and if they are smart they will be showing him/her the ropes. Especially alistair who knows hes dieing rather rapidly.

It might also be a set up to play out in a future DA game. Alistair/Anora dies and it becomes part of the main plot to give Fereldan a new leader.

Trust me, it's not even remotely true. The devs have said nothing like that.

Touché! But at that point you've already killed Loghain because Alistair's manipulation made you feel like a jerk.

(I should probably add that I like Alistair, but don't think he is a good king.)

Anora/Alistair situation remind me Udina/Anderson situation in first game (me 1 , and fits to dao:devil:) could choose who will be council member and in third game (me 3 ,dai) it was totally ignored as even if you put anderson as council member after few years he gave udina that position
