If Bioware doesn't want succession of the Fereldan throne to be an issue, they could just have Alistair hook up with an NPC in some fashion regardless of what happened to him and she gives him a kid.
If Alistair is the sole monarch, then he could marry this woman or keep her as a mistress. If he went into exile, he met her and fell in love/slept with her when Teagan took him back to Fereldan in DA2. If he is married to Anora or the Warden, then he took this woman as a mistress and got her pregnant with his wife's approval. If he is still a Grey Warden, then he was given the duty to create an heir by Anora to prevent a civil war and he met this woman.
The only other woman in Al's life was Isabela. He was totally hitting my female elf mage, but she killed a dragon and carked it. That's the real reason he took Izzy with him in the comics. He totally wants some more pirate loving.

Hell, DAO and DA2 spoilers get discussed here all the time pretty much. Essentially the unwritten rule about spoilers is that if the game/movie has been out for over a year now then it's okay to talk about because practically everyone who was going to play/see said game/movie would've done so by now.
