Seeing as how the forum for characters and love interests is closed for whatever reason, I thought I'd open this up.

I have a male Shepard that I'm currently playing, currently replaying ME2. I romanced Liara in ME1 and I SOOOOOO want to remain loyal, but I just love both Miranda and Tali and quite frankly, I stopped playing a bit as I can't make up my mind because I like all three of them.

Now this thread isn't about these three in particular, but it got me thinking, who is the best romance interest for you in your playthrough? Now this is strictly subjective so what's right for me won't necessarily be what's right for you as we have different personalities and different perspectives. But I figured when we talk about our Love Interests in the Mass Effect saga, we could also talk about WHY we like these characters.

Liara: For me, Liara is smart, which is what initially attracted me to her in ME, add in the cute awkwardness of her being kind of socially impaired. But then in ME2, she became a lot tougher, is more than capable of handling whatever violence she feels she needs to do, but is still emotionally vulnerable as we see at the end of Lair of the Shadow Broker when she practically breaks down now that her revenge was complete.

I sort of see her as the 'canon' love interest overall, but I really do like her for her.

Miranda: This woman has drive. She starts off believing she has to find out how others would use her, from her father to Cerberus so she can feel like she fits in the world because of how she was 'born', so to speak, with her being genetically altered and created without ever having a mother.

She is strong, smart, highly competent, and I absolutely love it if you take her with you to fight the human Reaper, decide to destroy the base (if she's loyal) and how the Illusive Man tries to order her to stop you from destroying the base and she pretty much tells him to shut up, and hangs up on him. It also helps that she has a lot of the features that I am attracted to in real life as well, not just in looks but also her ambition and her drive. But most of all, her love of her family and how far she'll go to protect her sister.

Tali: I always liked Tali, and but what really got me was during her loyalty mission and how she faces treason, and she gets on Shepard about how much she simply cannot experience because her immune system is so weak, and my heart went out to her, and I wanted my Shepard to be with her.

That, and the scene in ME3 where she's drunk and romancing Shepard is really hilarious.

But yeah, between these three, I simply cannot choose one.

I'm interested in your guys's thoughts, who of the many romance interests do you guys like and why you like them? And whether or not you agree with the three I like.

Uh oh.

You're not allowed to like all three. I hope you brought your fire-retardant underwear.:D

Kaidan was my favorite, end of story. It took me three games to get his romance, but it was SO well worth the wait. He was so sweet and kind. It made my heart melt. And it doesn't hurt that he has the hottest a** on the Normandy either.

Jack, the emotional bond those two end up sharing (depending on your Shepard obviously) and his drive to keep willing to expose her to the positives in life and let her know that there will always be a sense of warmth and happiness in her life, regardless if the two stay together or not. She's just one of those characters and the Citadel DLC brought it to a conclusion that I personally found perfect for the two, especially the tattoo scene, which is what was missing from their "vanilla" romance arc in the game.

Chrom. It just works so well with the story and makes for a much more personal and deeper experience. Much more heart-wrenching too and-

Oh... Mass Effect...

Eh, Kaidan was a great romance through all three games. Garrus was cool too. Meh, overall.

Liara and Samara are the only really good love interests for me. Though I can also appreciate Kaidan and Ashley's in ME1.

Pretty cool. I thought Kaidan was a cool guy, I save him more than I do Ashley at any rate. But for you, what makes him a better LI than that one guy who pilots the shuttle whose name I can't quite remember right now?

Strictly out of curiousity. ;)

Edit: Ah, you edited it, so now you answered my question. :D

If I had ever played a straight romance, I would have gone for Jack or Liara. Jack was such a well written character, that I would liked to try a romance with her.

Huh, part of me says this won't end well. But then again, the "Character and Romance Thread" created by theillusiveman a few months ago got lost in the abyss, which was probably the best thing to have happened to it. Now we get another chance to view...."ascension".

*clears throat* anyways, my preferred LI was Liara. I loved her innocent naivette, along with her drive. When she's passionate about something, she really puts all her energy into it, a very dedicated worker. I could have done without the "vulnerable virgin" aspect back in ME1, but other than that, no complaints.

You are thinking of Steve btw.
Well, to elaborate a little further, I liked that the romance didn't start until ME3. I liked that I had a chance to build a real friendship with him, as both he and Liara were my best friends on the Normany. Took them on every mission in ME1. But I think that the wait made it all the more impactful when we sat down at the Cafe to talk. I literally felt the pieces fall into place for Shepard and Kaidan. And I loved the talk they shared at the Cafe.

Ah. Very cool. Kind of like how I felt things fell into place on my first full playthrough of the games and romanced Tali. She and Shepard just have so much history, and her immune system made it all about their genuine emotions.

And I was really concerned that she probability of death actually increased on the suicide mission if she romanced Shepard on my first playthrough.

But yeah, Kaiden is really cool.

Personally, I enjoyed her character development and character because of certain fanfic going into ME3.  There were certain ones written by a few folks here on BSN that just made the experience even better.

Liara is good tpo, for the amount of content she gets, but I I actually prefer her "friendship" path near the end of ME3, the that little scene with the head on the shoulder had the feels.

Ashley IMO, though her arc could have been done better. I thought her response to Shep in ME2 was reasonable given her personality, background, and given her relationship with Shep. The reconciliation wasn't exactly how I imagined it (I don't like Ash taking all the blame for Horizon) but the exchange of I love yous after the romance scene was good and Shep reciting poetry to Ash before the final mission was also.

Not really. I'vebeen posting on for three years, but I've mainly stayed in the Dragon Age areas. Posted in the mass effect section frequently before the ending DLC came out, but I ducked out of the fray around the time it came out as the flaming was so bad that I couldn't make a reasonable argument at the time without feeling like my life was literally on the line at times. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wink.png[/smilie] Hypothetically speaking I mean.

And cool, Jack is a very well written character, and I really like and respect her. Pretty much crossed her off my list of potential LI's mainly becase of how often she dropped the F-bomb as I wasn't comfortable with that. ^_^

Still really like her.

Oooh, Nice. I didn't know Shepard recited poetry as I never romanced her. But I love her quoting Ulysses in ME1, and that alone made me want to romance her if I wasn't already going for Liara.

Heh, me and my brother had some pretty good debates as he absolutely loves Ashely whereas I greatly respect her.

HA, reminds me of Grunt's loyalty mission in ME2.

EDI: There have been 4 reproduction offers to Grunt, and 1 for Shepard.
