I kind of hate being "incompatible" with whatever is popular though. I wish I knew what that was like. A lot of things that seem well supported and popular with fans don't register to me much (Liara, Garrus, Tali have sort of become the unofficial faces of Mass Effect.. and I never saw the big deal. Now I have to deal with whatever their fans demand, at the expense of everything else).

Well, you also have to keep in mind that all three of those characters have been around since the first game. 

And it's not like they ditched the ME2 characters in ME3, either.

'Tis true.  I have more nuanced opinions on what they could/should have done with certain characters (such as Miranda subbing for EDI at Cronos), but my point stands.

It all depends on the players preference. Although, from what I understand, you get more dialogue and whatnot with Liara.

While I'm not arguing against your point since I do agree with it, to be fair, it's not like Liara knew that Miranda planned to do so when she gave Cerberus Shepard's body.

And before we get into Liara obsessiveness or so-called betrayel of Shepard for giving Shepards body to Cerberus, we wouldn't have ME2 in the first place if she didn't. Though I do think the whole killing off Shepard and resurrecting him with Project Lazarus was a stupid idea by Bioware.
