It was never meant to be taken seriously. Pacing-wise, I find it fits best between Rannoch and Thessia (preferably with Leviathan going in the same "window"). Unfortunately for Mirimancers, she can only appear in the party if you do it after Horizon.

I see fetch questing across the galaxy as more immersion breaking than shore leave. I am Commander Shepard, N7, Spectre, and savior of the galaxy. Sure, I'll travel out to the far reaches of the galaxy for your book. It's been lost for generations, but no problem.

I loved Citadel, and think it makes as much sense as anything else in the game. I also knew when I bought it that it's a big, sappy, bucket of fan service. Many moments of that dlc made me smile. Did you not know what you were getting when you bought it?

I also loved LotSB, whether I romanced Liara in that playthrough or not.

edit:
For my playthroughs I put it right before the attack on Cronos Station.  One final shore leave while the Crucible nears completion.

Nah i dont think citadel dlc breaks the immersion.. i could probably slot the citadel dlc as the Normandy repairs. in the me3 timeline. rather than focusing on the citadel dlc plot as a shore leave. I'd think about it as Normandy being rearmed resupplied for the final battle. probably in a span of 2 days.

I'm in love with Citadel DLC. Its a gift to players. I haven't read this entire thread, so I don't know what the majority opinion is, but for me... Citadel DLC made me laugh and cry. It gave me joy to see my Shepard surrounded by friends, just taking a break. Being normal. Getting sloshed. Having dates.

How can that possibly be a bad thing? Imagine Citadel DLC as the ending, pretending the Reaper threat is gone. If you can't, so be it.

The entire game was already wacky enough with its silly ninjas, stupid conspiracy plot & moustache twirling villains.

The only thing i liked was the pistol you get.

The DLC does not belong in ME3.

It was cut content from ME2.

Again, ME2 really, really tried to save ME3. But ME3 sucked so hard that even the Masterpiece of citadel DLC wasn't enough to make the turd smell better.

And yeah, it's totally immersion breaking-like tons of stuff in ME3.....

Shepard fights his evil clone and has a kickin' party before attacking Earth????

Dafuq?? Okie dokie.

Still Great.

And it was Great because it did what Mass Effect does best-

Great Characters. Great dialogue. Epic Cheezyness and ROC.

I intentionally played it after beating the game the first time - after I ran smack into the original endings in all their glory because Extended Cut didn't install on my 360 correctly.

I didn't actually complete my first playthrough of the series until December 2013, so I already knew that the endings were considered highly nuanced indeed. Many players had recommended just treating the Citadel DLC as the "real" ending, so that's what I did, and I enjoyed it tremendously, even after seeing the Extended Cut endings. In fact, this is about the only time I kicked back with a beer while playing a video game (at least for the party, anyway).

And I do agree that it's pretty silly to be wrangling FedEx quests and goofing off with your crew when the Reapers are sacking the galaxy. Just another flaw to hang on ME3, which is a great game unfortunately saddled with many asterisks.

So yeah, I don't bother playing Citadel until after completing a playthrough. That way, there's no immersion to break - at least for me, anyway.
And as for how much I liked it? EA could have charged a lot mo .... well, it was really cool.:D

I liked it fine, i thought the production values were excellent, i just thought it was badly placed in the grand scheme of events in ME3. I would much have preferred an ending where Shepard lives if he wins the final confrontation and then Citadel is like an epilogue, saying goodbye to everyone and perhaps Shepard retires with or without the love interest.

Of course they could not do this because in the majority of endings he is dead or as good as dead.

Citadel would make a very good post-ending DLC, but it doesn't take place post-ending, which makes it out of place. It should have been in ME2 like it was originally meant to be.

I´m not saying the dlc is not well done, it´s got some fun parts etc....but i just find it really weird doing this dlc hours before one heads of to piority earth. I also think it´s too light-hearted, too much making fun of itself, and indirectly the player. I love the bits of humour in mass effect series but this dlc goes so over the top with a gag every minute, its hard to know what is serious and what is a joke. And then being in the final game it sort of demans the seriousness of the Reapers.

Anyone feel the same?

My solution to this particular promblem is to just not do Priority Earth and end my playthrough on a positive note.

What's this about Citadel originally being intended for ME2? Has someone from Bioware actually said that?

Guys, Mass Effect 3 is a simulation. Enjoy it for what it is, and use your Shepard's journey to its fullest. It has a LOT of greatness to it. Citadel DLC just fulfils what was already hinted over and over and over and over. So yeah, either decide to not go there, or have a blast fighting a clone and stopping CAT6 and playing a claw game and enjoying time with friends and having a party and fighting virtual enemies and taking gambles and uncovering a conspiracy..

You know... R&R! :wizard:

Very likely meant that they planned on a social DLC taking place on the Citadel, with some of the same basic ideas (maybe even up to meeting Shepard's clone) happening.

It's not like they transplanted their work on a ME2 DLC to a ME3 DLC. Not the same thing. ME3 Citadel DLC is very very likely very different compared to what a ME2 Citadel DLC would have been.

Citadel I think was never meant to be taken too seriously. It was pure and simple a last hurrah of the game and the team that made it that promised much, delivered less and was still somehow capable of delivering very good stuff after all the ****e that was piled on them for their previous failing. It is quite clear that Citadel DLC was made by the people who enjoyed making it as much for themselves as for the fans, all the little jokes, the situations even the "main" storyline of it was full of obvious things that could have only been used in the context it was presented.

Overall Citadel DLC is like the edible decorations on the cake, they taste good on their own, they look pretty and they make the overall product better but the cake itself was unfortunately made with errors and is a bit of a mess. SO while the last bit that you add on top is all nicely made and is on itself just a brilliant the cake beneath it is starting to fall apart a bit pulling the stuff on top of it with it.

Yes, a post ending set about two years later. Would fit with very few changes (even wrex arguing with the council would make more sense, the clone waking and taking two years to get sorted and plan). The last shot could be the crew walking away as shep and the li watch from the apartment door or something. Could have the Normandy parked in the distance.
Of course only available if you chose destroy,  but then that's what you should have done in the first place :P

It's a little bit overrated, but I agree. There's truly something for everyone in Citadel.

And as ridiculous as the clone plot may be, I do feel as though post-trilogy Mass Effect can really shine if its focus is like that of this DLC -- not on alien horrors and epic heroism, but on a space society with advanced science/tech and the kinds of problems and political issues that come about from this futuristic setting (cloning being the issue at hand in Citadel).
