To be honest is is piracy a big problem anyway? As most real gamers who download illegally go and buy the game if they really enjoyed the game. So from what the most of the reviews are saying most impatient ppl will be buying the game after they've played it. I'm waiting due to me ordering the digital deluxe edition and on a cracked version I wont get my extras that i payed extra for :P . But if I went and downloaded it now would it be wrong as I have already payed ea 45 pounds a few weeks ago (I'm not downloading it for the aforementioned reason but hypothetically I wouldnt be stealing as ea has my 45pounds already :P)

This is correct.

Most "pirates" or gamers generally do buy the games. Its just an exscuse for companies to throw around. See for PC gamers. espeically oldschool PC gamers such as I, we remember the days of DEMOS, you know TRY OUT the game before you buy it.

Demos hardly exist anymore on the PC scene. But their coming back, with dark void etc.

But the fact is, for example, I would of downloaded dark void, played it for an hour then deleted it off my PC and never touch it again, but I did not have to do that, because I downloaded the demo.

In the multiple 'scene'  or 'pirate' forums, almost ALL people have pre-ordered the game.

Yeah i used to buy pc gamer to get funky demos but that was like about 6 years ago now or longer! I wonder why they stopped with demos? I think it had to do with the size of new games demos as some demos started to exceed 1 gig!

Absolutely, all you need is a slight mod on the xbox and you can fill it with hundreds of free games.

Piracy is a problem for all platforms (except for the Wii I guess, who gives a s*** about the Wii?)

Seems you know alot about piracy...:bandit:suspicious... just kidding :P
Ah well I guess it was bound to happen but it never usually happens this early but at  least the devs will try and keep the forums spoiler free but beware for the next few days ^_^

Actually, you don't even need a "mod" you just flash the firmware on your xbox - if it has a liteon drive. and thats it.

But, you'll xbox will get banned. There is no modchip, or firmware that is undetectable anymore.

Another person with alot of knowledge on illegal downloading :bandit::bandit::bandit: even more suspicious...:ph34r:
:P

Yes, I could tell you everything you needed to know. Funny thing is, I don't even own a ****box360. I don't need a 5 year old computer that breaks 50% Of the time.

Well, I don't think either of you can say for sure.  Sure maybe you know a group (however large) of pirates that will buy the game.  Anecdotal evidence is hardly compelling enough to make such statements as "most gamers who pirate will buy the game later" or anything like that.  On the same not I can say that all of the people that I personally know who pirate do NOT buy a majority of the games that they pirate, ESPECIALLY if they are single player games.

I think I would cut back on the "pirating isn't an actual problem" or "pirating is just corporate buzz" on that note, because neither of us know with any degree of certainty whatsoever.

I lost my CD key for ME1 back in the day. I bought another copy so i could DL bring down the sky. Only reason i'd do that is because i respect Bioware and their product. I'm buying ME2, I'll buy the DLC for ME2 and make sure others do too.

If we manage to track any illegal DLs to Melbourne Australia i'm happy to call the cousins in for an interrupt or two. With a master of Intelectual Property law and Police Officer both members of the family i'm sure we could find a legal way to seize their rig and smash it apart or soemthing in that vein.

Would ya beat me ppl like me up even though i've technically payed for a product I have not received yet? (again I'm not illegally downloading it so don't beat me up mate as I bruise like a peach :P)

I can just look at the download stats on multiple torrent sites. Its really not that many people who download the game, 10-20k max, compared to the 4 million copies it will sell.

The only game I've ever pirated is Planescape Torment (recently, like last year, very few alternatives to getting that game these days).  "Pirating" has it's good-side, it allows you to get software that has otherwise been totally discontinued and unattainable through conventional means.

Or when you disc gets scratched and you can't install/play like what happened to my KOTOR disc D:

I personally believe that piracy is only justified when you can somehow return the favor back to the devs. Kind of a thanks to them, I suppose.

Even when I look right now, only like 1200 people are downloading the leaked version for the xbox. And these are states from multiple torrent sites. EA/BIoware have nothing to worry about, even the 'pirates' are waiting for this one.

That's not a lot at all.

Couldn't a single download be copied and lead to cracks that can be used by multiple people?

Again, I'm not too keen on how this works.

20k might not seem that much, but add that up with those who just rent it, and those who just buy it used.  It could add up to decent chunk.

Meh

I'm not saying pirating is good it's just that companies love that excuse even though it's their fault the pc game industry started to decline due to overprotective security measures that didnt stop illegal copies but made people who bought the game feel like thieves. The console market does better due to being able to exchange games and that they can be re-sold unlike pc games where you buy it and thats it. I remeber when i bought Warhammer II and had just moved and didn't have internet yet and I could'nt play  it even though i spent 30 pounds on and had the receipt in my hand and it said without an internet verification I could not play the game!!!!!!!!

Agreed, Bioware is just about the only studio i can think of that i have openly supported all the releases of to date since BG2.... And will probably continue to do so outside of the that MMO release... the only thing that would make me a happier bioware fan would be to see BG3... Like that's ever gonna happen... but still ; ; I just miss Boo

Lot's of people don't know certain members of the Bioware team worked for FREE to get certain features in the Game that the FANS wanted.
MOST video game company's don't care about their fans like that.
.I swear If any bastard tryed to sell me a Boot leg copy of ME2 I would split his head wide open with a crow bar!
I won't call the police I'll call the morgue

erm, not dosent work quite like that.

The xbox version is released either cracked, or you have to put on the autoloader. ANd thats it, and most pirates just dont give out copies, only a very few rare people sell downloaded games on burned cds.

As for "cracks" there is only 1 crack. For exmaple, if the PC version gets leaked to the net, you will download it, install it. Then you will copy over the MassEffect2.exe or something like that, and replace it with the original. This will get rid of the "cd" check or "drm"

Multiple cracks dont need to be produced, Just one. Unless theirs a patch, then a new crack is needed. If a person wanted to download it for PC, this is what they would need to do.

Nobody here is promoting pirating to circumvent having to purchase the games and support the devs.

PS3 does not have a lot of problems with pirating because blank blue ray discs is expensive and not many people have blue ray burners.

wrong :o

PS3 has HARDCORE checks, I'm not even gonna go into the detail, but it has nothing to do with the blueray, because you *could* in the old non slim ps3s replace the hard drive, and games can be played off the hard drive unlike the xbox...

but, ps3 is just... hardcore.. Theirs a disc check, each disc is labled with a special specific check. Each disc has an individual code, then theirs the boot up sequence that stops you from doing anything at all. The 7th core, is completely locked, even to developers, this core does a lot of things, but the main thing is to do system checks, and make sure no one is pirating or hacking the console.

I reccomend you google it if you want the full 411, just to much protection the ps3, almost unhackable...

Actually there's quite a bit of pirating for the Wii as well, the homebrew channel can be used to pirate games, I don't know if there's a version for the newest update though (I'm not a pirate, but at the college I went to there were some)
