1. Talk to them anywhere, anytime (except for locations or situations where it shouldn't be possible).
Not just when something glows over their head, or I'm in their 'home base'. It doesn't always have to be a cinematic cutscene with throbbing music in the background. Sometimes people talk and it's not a "big moment".
Anything else? Yeah, party banters that are 3-way, possibly involving the protag/inquisitor, even if not initiated by him/her, though that's not, per se, interaction. Hey, 4-way, if they're daring, code-hungry, and want to script something with that many variables.
2. Poke them with a stick, and they say "ow."
