Being a team player is much more valuable than scoring high, IMO.
^^^ This.
What's considered a decent / good / exceptional score for a Gold PUG?

FasterThanFTL and B00g13man both made valid points. Often times it does come down to kill or be killed. I will usually stop ressing someone who cant seem to stay up for more than 15 seconds after wave 7 or 8 if it is going to get me killed.

I'm sorry, there are certain enemies (the Geth) and maps (Condor, Dagger Hazard, Rio, Vancouver, Hydra if I'm using a CQC class) that just give me cancer.

Good: close to 130k
Exceptional: Over 160k
The rest is team sinergy, medals and the occasional killstreaks.
Ooor.... for more "competitive" standards (with extraction, ofc):
Decent: 50k points less than first place
Good: Top score
Exceptional: top score and more than the 3rd and 4th place points combined

Decent = 200K+
Good = 250K+
Exceptional = 300K+
Actually just had my first 200+ on a UUG XBox, Back in the lobby a mic came on and said I was too agressive. Then came the red X's. I just laughed and the third X came up... It was my lobby/host...

I have played matches where I was on my game, but the group composition was not one where I would score high.
Example, recently in a match I was using a GE while the other 3 were using snap cheese spamming Paladins. I pretty much spent the entire time detonating CE's .. finished 3rd on the scorecard of a really fast Gold match.
I have also played matches where I wasn't playing my best, but a UUG match that becomes Glacier/Reapers while I'm using a GT ends up being an absurd roflstomp. 200K is very realistic on that setting ...
Are you hosting? Because there is a significant difference in scoring for hosts vs non-hosts.
And so many more variables .. Say you join a match in progress on wave 2 with that same GT from above, except now it is on a pre-set Condor/Geth (masochism at its finest). Your score will be half of what it was on that UUG that was Glacier/Reapers .. even playing at the same skill level ..

Scoring in general isn't a zero sum thing, and it's sort of proportional to the length of the match. It's worth noting that back when I was doing no rocket gold speed duos neither me nor Pain would normally score more than 150k (for example http://farm6.staticf..._c1dbbc2dd7.jpg). Of course that's with a set map/enemy but still.
Competence isn't hard to reach in this game, and anyone who tries for long enough will eventually be a useful teammate. Generally though someone scoring less than 60k is mostly a deadweight, and someone scoring over 150k is an experienced player with a broad level of knowledge about the game.

True enough.
Fast games usually mean 4 capable players run the map.
Total score is interesting when " THE Team " scores 600k/20min in gold this is/was a good game.
Nobody going down during a match ? This is a friend request.

It's more fun to play with friends, but when they are unavailable pugs have to do. Usually they are nothing more than decoys yet - assuming they don't suffer dieeveryseconditis - are worth keeping alive. I help them when I can, but I play the game first and foremost to enjoy myself. So sometimes pugs can go **** themselves when I'm having quality Claymore time at the other side of the map.

Would lower this to 40k to be polite to the poor pugz - however a destroyer with typhoon scoring 60k IS a deadweight
Edit: gold and above

I've seen players who score incredibly high by dumping aggro on the randoms in the match and going after the easy kills. For instance if they get the attention of a Banshee they'll foist her off on the nearest PUG who doesn't realize the best solution is to just run far away (especially in lieu of his level 4 rare assault rifle without any armor piercing). PUG gets stuck walking backwards for the rest of the round while the score**** kills everything and collects most of the points.

I also agree, lightswitch. For me, it is more about how smooth the match goes than over all score.
Sure, I kill lower level targets first because it depletes the budget faster; however, I don't hesitate to help other players that are in trouble with more difficult enemies if I can. Take dragoons for example. Most pugs seem to struggle with them. It just so happens that they have a spawn cap on most of the waves in which they spawn. Easy targets for experienced players, but a death sentence for inexperienced players. One shot to the torso, they combat roll, then easy headshot. Kill them first and then move on to other targets.
