 Do you plan on buying ME4 knowing Shepard won't return?
Just curious how the sentiment is now.

At first I was very adamant about not buying another instalment without Shepard but right now I'm not sure.
The story has to be very good, on par with the trilogy we got.
But even then, not seeing the crew ever again, it's weird.

I'll never support Shepard being the Brett Favre/Jay-Z of protagonist. Either way, I'm tired of them, and I will not miss them in the slightest.

As long as characters like Wrex and Grunt show up, I'm good (and I mean characters with similar personalities to them).

The thing that worries me most is that it's being developed by the multiplayer team from ME3, and not the guys who made the singleplayer campaign. As cliché as it sounds, I'm guessing the next ME game will be a CoD clone with a few RPG elements tossed in.

I would love to have Shepard and crew back, but I still plan on getting the next game without them in it.

I don't know enough about the next Mass Effect game to have any idea if I'll want it or not. 

I would like another game where I could play as my Shepards. There's no way for me to have them live in the end (no multiplayer, DLC or patches) so my only solution is to stop playing before reaching that point. It would be nice to see my Shepards alive after ME3's ending. I don't expect the next game will actually do this though. 

There are a few things I'm watching out for - important content that requires an online connection, forced death of the player character, excessive amounts of autodialogue (or anything else that limits roleplaying), and probably more that I'm not thinking of at the moment. If too much of that stuff shows up in MENext, I'm not interested.

Shepard cannot return, as they are using a new engine. Can't port faces made in the old engine into the new one.

Why no internet access?

I don't use an internet connection with my game consoles. The short explanation is that most of my stuff which had an online connection became messed up to the point of being unusable. I've never had any problems with game consoles, and I'd like to keep it that way. I can't afford to replace them if anything happens just because I wanted to see a five second breath scene confirming my Shepards' survival, and most console games have no online requirements (many even include the DLC on-disc) so I'd rather play the ones that I think are "doing it right".

Edit to add: I've also just never seen the appeal in having an online connection to everything. I had been playing games for many years before I ever used the internet, so I don't want or need it in my consoles.

I don't think important things like plot missions, ending content and import systems should ever be online-only in a singleplayer game that is otherwise completely playable offline. When I bought ME1, the only online content was two DLC missions - not plot related. Compare that to ME3, where they weren't even honest about multiplayer being required for the highest-EMS ending.

Its too early for me to know if I will get the game or not, but Shepard doesn't need to be part of the game for me to be interested in buying it.

Yes.

I'm looking forward to seeing a new character. Shepard and crew need to rest in peace, they had a good run. No need to ruin them like Lucas ruined my childhood.

ME4 should have...

1. no prequels
2. no lesser important story then Sheps story if they are not using shep...I dont want to play a story that lives in the shadow of Sheps story importance.
3. Would be nice if they finished sheps story(I.T.) in ME4 but if not then it would be nice to at least see Liara or Grunt in ME4 because they can live for so long.
