Firstly, she should be female. Secondly, she should be available.

If I ever think up a third, I'll be sure to let you know.

Sagacious Zu

Back in the old Bioboards, people frequently wished Zu to be a LI, though. And it gets even more interesting if you consider the fact that he is 20+ years your senior.

And I'm ok with that Image IPB when I think of it, all the characters I listed were significantly older than the PC (well, I have no idea about Sten but he doesn't look young). Men only I guess, no boys allowed Image IPB

Pfft. You people are just >impliers.

Recon never clops. Not even if he were tied up in Molestia's sex dungeon and she was choking him with her hind legs.

A manly man who will listen to your counciland value your opinion but still have his own brain and make his own decisions. Someone not meek, cowering, overly emotional/emotionally unstable or submissive. A man who would knock someone's teeth out in defense of your honor. The men I would want to romance are never romance options: Zaeed, Sten, Canderous, Sagacious Zu, Wrex (personality, not...Krogan-ness) the closest we've gotten is Carth but he's somewhere in between. I like the sweet, submissive, emotional LI's in their own way but I would prefer a traditional manly man if nothing else than for variety's sake.

I'm crossing my fingers for that Grey Warden guy. He looks promising.

What makes a good LI?

I guess there are countless answers, but if I may mention an aspect the absence of which is responsible for much LI disappointment for me:

I want a character who is their own person, and stays that way. I don't want them to change for my character because if I like them, I like them as they are when I meet them, and changing them too much is liable to make me fall out of love.

Good example: DAO's Morrigan. She learns a bit during her travels with the Warden and doesn't remain untouched by her experiences, but at the core she stays who she's always been, to the point that she leaves at the end. In this case this may have lead to an extended separation or even a final one (as you'd think before Witch Hunt), but had she not decided to follow her own fate and not tie herself to the Warden, she wouldn't have been the woman this Warden loved. Of course I would've preferred if the Warden's and Morrigan's plans didn't separate them, but better this way than to compromise a personality trait I love for the relationship. At the end, the Warden and Morrigan were separated but even before Witch Hunt, there was hope for the future. None of Bioware's romances came even remotely close to Morrigan's in my appreciation.

Bad example: ME2/3's Miranda. In ME2, she was a badass super-spy who cared about the advancement of humanity and achieved the impossible when she brought Shepard back to life. She also cared about her sister, had existential problems because of her origin and a strong consequentialist streak in her professional side. While you could convince her she's more than her father's tool and that was a welcome change, it was the combination of her professional and personal aspect which made her who she was. Then ME3 came and completely axed her professional side and her pragmatism, probably because they'd been tied to Cerberus and they didn't want that legacy for a "good" LI. The thing is, I never wanted a "good" LI, I always wanted ME2's badass super-spy. Had I wanted a "good" LI, I wouldn't have liked Miranda to start with.

Another bad example is DA2's Isabela, who makes it clear to you that she'll change for your sake. Yuck. I like her and her story until that moment, but that almost ruins it. I wish I liked Merrill better, at least she sticks to her guns.

I would say a well written LI
does not matter where it goes as long as we are lead there without having to make up too much of the story on my own.
