I'd actually like to see a LI who takes charge, who drives the relationship forward, who initiates.

Oh, man, the internet would explode. Remember when Anders even made ONE flirt at the PC? I suspect Bioware will either maintain the "PC initiates romance" status quo, or come up with a way of making it semi-optional. (Such as the player selecting the "heart" icon the first time around, but then the LI pursues the PC going forward.)

The negative reaction was almost exclusively from straight guys who felt uncomfortable having another guy hit on them. I never heard any complaints about Isabella's in your face comments. I would love to have a LI that takes charge and persues the PC.

He/she needs to have a well-written personality. After that, it's all player preference. In DAO, I preferred Leliana over Morrigan because the former was more of a kind, caring soul; whereas the latter was kind of a b¡tch.

Oh, I know. I was just pointing out that potential for backlash. Personally, I never had any problem with it.

If I were to be a lesbian, the traits I'd look for in a woman would be:

-Paler than the moon
-Eyes that shine like stars
-She needs to laugh at all my jokes
-She needs to adore my battle scars

On second thought, I couldn't care less what she'll wear or what she looks like, it all depends on what she cooks like. She needs to be able to feed my inquisitor beef, chicken, pork, and halla while we adventure. Having a brain and speaking her mind are unnecessary.

Someone who would also make a great friend for my character. That's perhaps why Morrigan, Isabela and Zevran are my favourite characters, because the 'romance' aspects are toned down. I feel pretty uncomfortable going through romances that have lots of intense or sentimental moments.

I like Alistair and Leliana as characters, but their romances were too sugary for me. Fenris's romance was too intense and angsty. I did make a special effort for Merrill since she's my favourite, but it had a lot of emotional drama like the Fenris romance, and the cutesyness of Alistair/Leliana.

Over all though, I hope the LIs are diverse in personality and motivation in DAI.

The heart icon makes it more difficult to play without metagaming.

I don't understand the Tsundere connection.

It doesn't need to be there as an auto-romance-win feature, but I think I've made my feelings on THAT clear. :innocent:

It should be clear to players what the initiation of flirting is with every character, but after that the constant cupid-hand-holding sucks. Pick the heart and your relationship grows! What an auto-Hallmark moment!

Imaginary, simulated love should be easier than the hurdles of the real thing, but not ridiculously so.

Tsundere[/b] (ツンデレ?, pronounced [tsɯndeɽe]) is a Japanese character development process that describes a person who is initially cold and even hostile towards another person before gradually showing his or her warm side over time. (from Wikipedia)

Seems like a JRPG thing. Also appears to be the plot, BTW, of about 90% of Hollywood romantic comedies from the 30s and 40s.

I found that same article.  I didn't see the relevance.

I disagree that we should know which line will be interpreted by our target as flirtatious.

If you want to flirt, then flirt, and if you do it in a way that your target doesn't identify as flirting, then you failed at flirting.

All the heart icon did was tell us whether the listener would preceive us as flirting, and I really don't think we should have that information in advance.

Your opponents will insist that they need a tone indicator there to make sure to them as players that a flirt is a flirt, regardless of whether it is then misunderstood or misinterpreted (or ignored) by the recipient.

And round and round we will go. My only position is, the heart icon - frankly, most tone indicators - don't need to be there constantly. Especially if they function as auto-romance-wins.

I mean, once you've started flirting with somebody, do you really need a tone marker to tell you that then saying that you'd like to kiss them or that they have great eyes (or WTF else) is ALSO flirting? How unable to read FOR tone have we become?

They're hard to do once you realize that the person delivering those lines to you is just someone sitting in a studio reading a script. And that someone doesn't even know who you are, let alone have any interest in you.

FOR ME, Anders was a great a love interest because you were put in situations that puts your love to the test. Also, he was fun to be around, not as fun as Zevran and Varric, but still fun.

But the player should always know that, because the player is the one who decides whether his character is trying to flirt.

Unless the player presumes that his character can't ever do anything badly, this can't be a problem.

I know this isn't specific, but to me, in any game, a good LI is one that is a good, well developed character first. From there, they should be able to fall in love in a way that makes sense for them, and the plot/circumstances of the story. I don't really care about the rest. It just has to make sense.

Thats it, nice and simple. Or not.

Would be really nice to have someone different I still kind of put Isabela, Merrill and Leliana all in the same category.
being important to the main story in some way
...A hope they dont fall for you just cause youre nice to them.

And Someone whos story doesn't end as soon as you romance them.
