I personally like the Alistair arc, I also like Morrigan and Zevran. My husband plays Dragon Age as well, so it helps us see both sides of the game without playing it :P He never romanced Zevran, but I did. But in Origins, I definitely preferred Alistair. I would have liked to romance Cullen for my Amell or Nathaniel Howe for my Cousland, but... no... I can't :(

In Dragon Age 2, I did most of the romances. Didn't like how the characters were player sexual, though. I liked Isabela and Fenris (especially with a female mage) the most.

Mass Effect, I'm all over Garrus. I like Kaidan just fine, but... my Shepard just fits better with Garrus. He has everything I desire in a guy :P outside of... being biologically compatible.

And can't go wrong with Carth Onasi either. Probably why I steer towards Garrus in Mass Effect.

As far as how I personally prefer them? That is really hard, I prefer characters that have a sense of, not maturity but, hardened naturally? I preferred. Zevran to Alistair, and Isabela to Merrill. Zevran had Alistairs Humour but he wasn't naive and mostly knew who he was and what he wanted.

Isabela was flippant but she chose to be, as compared to Merrill who didn't know much about the world or people. Merrill sometimes feels like the Dalish Woman Alistair lol, which isn't bad, but not what I like.

while both Anders and Fenris had those qualities, and both had really good reason for their hatred, it felt overwhelming, and occaisonally in Anders case childish. Their almost one track mind didn't lend itself well to romance and seems a little out of place though I have tried both

For me, it would have to be progression and payoff.

I really dig a romance arc that begins with a lot of mystery, but answers questions as the relationship deepens. That really provides a sense of progression as you gain the feeling that the romanced character opens up to and trusts your PC, and you get payoff as your curiosity is satisfied.

I also like the sense that the romance matters. One of the best examples to me is Bastila--although it is not necessary to romance Bastila in order to redeem and save her, when you do romance her it totally feels like that is the only reason you're able to pull her back from the dark side and avoid having to kill her.

I don't care much at all about gear progression, stat progression, or any of the metagaming stuff. I'd actually much rather have gear that levels with the PC like the DLC pack stuff in DA2, and not have to ever look at the stats again. The progression I do care about is story progression, and the development of relationships between the characters is a big part of that.

Hmmm, my favorite love interest in recent Bioware games is Tali, after first trying the other females in the ME and DA series.

Also: Safiya in NWN2: MotB and Aerie in Baldur's Gate 2 (Tali was heavily inspired by Aerie so no big surprise here I guess).

All three are supportive and accept support, but are capable of standing on their own (Aerie has to be assisted with her crisis of recent history first). I can view them as equals, partners in crime, companions, etc. Personality is a big thing for me.

Submissiveness? A man who lets you take charge? One that is cute and goofy and follows you around like a lost puppy? A virgin so you know that the only woman he has ever been with and will ever be with is you? A man with eyes for you alone that seeks guidance in your "swaying hips"?

What makes a good love interest?

Here's Chris Avellone's thoughts on the matter.

I personally prefer LI's that can stand tall with the PC a la the way they eluded to with John Connor and his wife in Terminator 3. I really like the concept of a strong woman helping keep her man together under the pressure while also being able to fend for herself and kick some serious butt. If a character has the weight of the world on their shoulders I feel it's only natural they'd want a partner to share that burden with, not one that worships the ground they walk on and has the potential to drag them down.

I liked Alistair and Ander's romances a lot because they had more ties to the plot (just like Morrigan and Isabella, but I prefer to romance dudes) - for the 4 of them, there were big, main story plot moments that I thought were better experienced if in a romance with one of them.

However, I actually thought Zevran and Fenris had the better written, overall sweeter romances. But by my nature, I went after Alistair and Anders in my first playthrough - guess I must like blondes? Also, at least in DA:O:Awakening, Anders felt like mage-Alistair, so maybe it's just Alistair I'm a fan of...could also be the British accents?

So...someone with a British accent, who has a live-or-die, climactic moment in the main story arc, but who has the character growth arc similar to Zevran.

Preferably one from a different culture (means that you can also learn about lore)
And for gods sake not a goody goody.... granted i don't want a evil LI... but just some of the comments that Leliana comes out with make me want to vomit....
But most of all someone who acknowledges the relationship and its progress

I assume you mean in game in the DA world.

1. Someone who I can respect and is able to take care of herself but is willing to let me help when she needs it.

2. Pro Mage

3. Someone who is funny and makes me smile.

4. Likes to flirt...but just with me ;-P

5. Not afraid to stand up for herself, even to me.

6. Someone I know will ALWAYS have my back (in battle) regardless if she totally agrees with why I am fighting.

7. Someone who is willing to give me the benefit of the doubt that I will do the right thing even if it seems that at first I may not. (trust).

8. Someone who always comes home in the end.

9. Someone who occasionally blushes in that cute manner that melts my heart.

Good, submissive, obedient waifus who worship my PC would be the minimum requirements for a good LI.

Edit: Oh and she needs to be an absolute virgin, don't forget about that, also very important.

By shutting up and die when i tell them to do so preferably by my hand, Virtual LI's is beginning to be the gaming industries version of cancer.

the "bulges" really don't matter in DA games as you never get to appreciate them as they are always covered up even when you get to "romance" them in bed.

As far as cooking skills, has any ever cooked in a DA game?

Now if you are talking about IRL then knock yourself out.
