Well I don't have a favorite, I love Elves/Dwarves/Qunari in different ways and will do multiple varying class/race/gender combo playthroughs. I might even play human eventually, unless it will add me to their telemetry data of "80% play human" or whatever, then I'll skip it. I do like my first playthrough to be the most downtrodden and descriminated combo which used to be mage/elf but might now be mage/Qunari.

Also being a female Qunari must be a major head turned since its so rare, i wonder what kind of dialogue we'll get from say some Orlesian nobles when making negotiations and all of a sudden they find out not only is a qunari the one leading a military force, but its a female

My favorite race are probably the humans, followed by the Qunari. I like the Qunari in particular because they look awesome and I am intrigued by the Qun. However, they need to do a complete 180 on their attitude towards mages.

someone has to explain them that you cannot become possessed just by speaking to mage^_^

I only realised this minute we can play as a Qunari.

Holy sheet I'm hyper than hype now.

So yeah, Qunari. Only because I can just say 'no' to some things without a long winded insult to the person I'm turning down, like Shepard.

My main inquisitor is probably going to be a dalish mage, because I love the dalish and their halla!!
But I intend to do a playthrough for each race just to try new plot choices...

Heck yes! I want to do at least one female Qunari 2H warrior that will flaunt her Tal'Vashoth-ness and her warrior woman-ness to scandalize any Qunari we meet :D

Qunari cause we've never played them before, so it will be interesting to see how differently people treat them and interact with them than they do with the other standard run-of-the-mill races.

I mainly play as a dwarf (the true underdog of Thedas, screw elves), but I'm planning some Qunari characters as well.

They're freakin badasses.

Dwarves still have a home, a culture, and arent the main victims of slavery. Elves have none of that and to add to the bad luck, used to be the most prominent of the races. Dwarves do suffer from the darkspawn but thats everyones problem, not a lot of people recognize or care about the horrible history of the elves therefore no one helps them

It's a tossup between humans and elves. My most likely first run will either be a male human mage/rogue or a male elven rogue

Humans are the generic, stock race, plus when it comes to playing characters I'd rather they be attractive. Elves are bony/skinny, dwarves are short and stocky, and qunari are...qunari. Plus it's more believable with a human character since most fantasy series seem to gear their campaigns and stories that way.

Elves, on the other hand, tend to be my favorite race in most fantasies simply due to their mystical nature, exotic-ness, and the idea of being humanlike but a more attractive version. Plus I like how Dragon Age mixes stereotypes (Elves as tree huggers/nature wanderers) with something fresh (being second class citizens, looked down upon instead of in awe). My first Warden was a city elf rogue, and it's more than likely I'll be rolling an elf rogue as my first or second run in Inquisition.

That said I do plan to play dwarves and qunari. A dwarf leading an entire Inquisition just reeks of awesome, as does a qunari (lady qunari in particular, defying all stereotypes of qunari women being merchants, priests and shopkeepers). Probably just not my first or favorite characters.

For me it will always be the Elvish race, I just connect more with them then the other races I suppose.

The elven dalish mage will suit my Inquisitor because it best represents me, I don't really need a reason apart from that race suits me just fine.

Dwarves once had a vast underground empire. Sure, remnants of it remain. But the fact that they still have a "home" doesn't mean much, though.

Their population is dwindling from infertility caused by proximity to the darkspawn. The caste system prevents upward social mobility. This forces many to leave for the surface, where they face an uncertain future. Unlike the elves (either the Dalish or in the Alienage), the surface dwarves don't have actual communities. Surface dwarves are lost souls forced into selling shoddy wares or becoming criminals.

Besides, the elves mostly dug their own grave. If they hadn't treated humans like disease-ridden vermin, then things might have been better for them.

Dwarves are literally suffering because of the humans (specifically the Tevinter magisters).

Warrior is just too.... heavy for me. I might play a warrior for variety's sake though.

What do you mean by "heavy"?

You know....It just doesn't give that feeling of cunning agility I get when I play a mage or a rogue.... They're slow for their heavy armor and weapons.

Does this include Fenris?

My favorite playthrough in DA:O was a human hating, blood-magic indifferent Dalish, so I'll probably go with that. I feel like it could make things interesting.

My favourite DAO playthrough was with my least effective Warden. So I'm not necessarily choosing a character design based on its effectiveness.

How so?

All the surface dwarves I remember seeing have been doing very well for themselves. Varric and his brother are successful merchants, Felsi worked in a tavern, Gorim became a merchant and found a wife.
Also I don't remember seeing anyone insulting dwarves. Humans basically view them as short stocky humans, they don't insult them or bully them.
And they do have communities, Varric and his brother were part of a dwarven merchants guild.

Youre making being a surface dwarf much more dramatic than it is, theyre not forced into anything. They arent subject to racism because of their dealings in dwarven merchandise. Tevinter is one of their number one traders they arent effected by them at all. Youre accusing all humans for something a few tevinter magisters did centuries ago and the way they accomplished this was through the blood of elven slaves, a practice they still use. Dwarves have problems with fertility but thats really it (not denying its a big deal), really doesnt make them as much of an underdog as all elves though. Their caste system is part of their culture, something elves mostly lost. Almost all of the elven problems are literally due to everyone elses aggressiveness
