1. Qunari mage.
2. Dalish mage.
3. Human (mage or noble rogue).
4. Dwarven rogue. (I'll probably play this 2 or 3 times)

Warrior is just too.... heavy for me. I might play a warrior for variety's sake though.

What do you mean by "heavy"?

You know....It just doesn't give that feeling of cunning agility I get when I play a mage or a rogue.... They're slow for their heavy armor and weapons.

Does this include Fenris?

Combat for Warriors and Rogues in DA2 was a bit exaggerated, yes. But I mean lorewise. Warriors are ment to fight with brutal force and strength and to achieve that, they have to use heavy weapons and armors, hence the slow movement.
Fenris was swinging that greatsword as if he was throwing cabbage around and it wasn't realistic. A greatsword that size has quite a heavy weight.
Mages and Rogues don't use heavy weapons and armor (Full plates and such) so they move more easily through the battlefield.
Plus, my main class is Mage simply because they have the real power IMO and rogues are very sneaky and I like that too.
Mages can also use Haste to spice things up!

My Qunari will be the best Inquisitor until I create a new one and playthrough the game again and see how things change, and how people react differently from a human, mage, dwarf or elf inquisitor, and what kind of choices I can make, and what the results of those choices ultimately are.

True true, i just personally love being in the mix of things, if im going to war, im going to be leading the vangaurd, if im fighting then im in the front line. Ive always preferred that than being at a distance or sneaking around to flank. Now with the qunari, ill be able to do it with a foot more in height and with hornsB).

Qunari. I like their no-nonsense attitude and collectivistic society structure, which will fit with what I do with my main character. Only issues I have here are their views on magic and what the Qun dictates about bas and Tal-Vashoth, but I'll have the power to make my own decisions on those matters. Maybe my Inquisitor will bring reform to the Qun!

Dalish are also interesting but I'm just not sure if they'll ever overcome their situation.

A Qunari Saarebas or Dalish Keeper, because outcasts on the fringes of society are always interesting characters and from a gaming standpoint, it will make victory much harder to achieve, but all the sweeter if you can do it.

My favourite race would have to be elf, but only a conceited idiot would actually believe that their favourite race would be "the best" Inquisitor. And a regular idiot would actually believe that there could even be a "best" Inquisitor. There's no best Inquisitor race or gender, there's no best Hawke class or gender, and there's no best Warden class, race or gender.

Although, there IS a worst Warden: a male elf mage Warden. Ew.

It's the least desirable. Elves are weedy - and admittedly, pathetic - enough in Origins, but to have a male one also wear robes (and especially have the Alistair hairstyle) is just overkill. It's like "I'm a powerful get things done type of person, but I look as if couldn't fight my way out of a paper bag... at least not without burning my face off." Females are generally considered (not being sexist) "weaker" than males, but for them to wear robes doesn't break the illusion that they're probably not physically very strong.

The difference between male human mages, and male elven mages, is that humans are the dominating race, while elves are basically the least dominate race. And mages are basically the bottom of the socialogical hierarchy (unless you count casteless dwarves), and are considered to be not worthy of living. One might suggest that that makes them the best choice to be Warden, but again, there is no "best" one.

I guess the reason is very socialogical.

I suspect that my first Inquisitor will make a ton of mistakes, so despite any effort, hopes, or dreams I might put into it, the first one is always the pancake you throw to the dog.

True thats why im always human first but this time its hard to decide. I might play human for 3-4 hours then start my actual character to see how much changes in that small amount of time

that is a good idea, i may have to steal it.

I know we can't play our backgrounds, but there will be one given for each race. It honestly depends upon what they turn out to be. If there is a Commoner/Castless Dwarf option, I'll probably try that first. Dwarves aren't my favorite race, but the Castless story was the first that got a completion from me in Origins.

The other one I'm curious about is a female Qunari, and trying her out as a warrior role. It looks like it'll be pretty unique. I'm sure there will be a lot of varied reactions from...well, everyone in Thedas. I'm betting it's more so as a mage, but I usually don't play mages my first time.

Otherwise, I'm not sure yet. There isn't a race I hate in Thedas, just ones I prefer to play over others.

Robes or not, I don't think of big burly manly men when I think of circle mages, I think of skinny nerds who read and play with magic all day and never have to lift a finger as far as actual labor goes. (and even though Hawke in DA2 wasn't a circle mage, it bothered me that he was unexplainably just as beefy as Carver who was a trained warrior that used a giant broadsword every day) I picked male elf mage for my first origins playthrough because he was so pathetic and downtrodden. From the race and class descriptions mage=hated and elf=hated so I picked both because I love the underdog. It made a more interesting story to me to see that kind of person overcome oppression and his own cowardice and shortcomings to save the day.

When people say "best" I'm sure they mean what will be in their opinion the most fun, most effective in negotiations, what is their usual favorite, etc...

I said that humans are the dominate race. I never mentioned whether they were physically strong or not (just males, specifically, in contrast to females, though that was a general statement).

The most fun isn't really best, and I seriously doubt that being one race will make it significantly easier to handle characters the Inquisitor meets. And just because you like something/someone the most, doesn't mean it's the best. It just means you like it over all other things/people.

I think the most generic, a human, non-mage (probably rogue?) male woud be best suited for the job as he would be the least likely to be scorned because of his gender or race, or accused of bias towards mage realted issues.

That said my favourite race is the elves and my elven inquistor will make the best inquisitor because he'll be awesomesauce.

Qunari. Because their culture is so alien and reprehensible to me. I love playing characters morally opposed to my own principles. Even as Vashoth, I expect this to be reflected in some way through immersive dialogue.

And because of their firm abs and-Ehem, highly advanced culture and rational thinking.

That and because humans are too generic to be anything but my third choice after dwarves that have too hairy buttcheeks to be my first choice.

I always find threads like this interesting. I have no favorite class or favorite race. Even if this game only offers, respectively, 3, and (now) 4, to pick from.

I'm more of a "try everything" kind of guy, and then of course, this becomes even more taxing on me when you actually offer 11 races and classes. Because I've got to try them all.

The 3 & 4 choice, vs. the 11 & 11 choice, well, at least it's easier to decide "what shall I try FIRST?"

BTW, since we now have playable qunari, let me just say I love qunari but am not so crazy about Qunari, and I'm so glad our playable qunari will be Vashoth. Because I hate the Qun. I can't fathom a culture so in denial of individuality they reject individual love and personal names. I would have trouble RPing someone trying to advance that ethos.

(*) If you don't know the difference between small q and Big Q, look at a dozen other threads, since the k word is taboo.

Dwarf, because I'm tired of them getting looked over (not a short joke, I promise). Beside they're my favorite race, and I want my Dragon Age world to have more important dwarves in their history.

Unfortunately I think we'll always be overlooked. Which is a shame because dwarves are an amazing race with a good set of lore but alas no one seems to give us the time of day. But to each their own.
