I'm back. Just saw the gamespot dev diary footage thing. Qunari or Dalish elf I think for me would be the best inquisitor but only if the in game world would react to their status.

So excited for this game, can't wait till they announce the next mass effect also.

The Qun demands it.

Elf is my favourite race, but my ideal Dragon Age protagonist would be an elven Qunari.

Dwarves because they have the best smiths, best beards, Oghren, Varric, and big axes. Dwarves will always be a cooler fantasy race than the pointy eared leaf eating elves.

They'll definitely include reactions base on race, its a question of how in depth they'll go

Yeah, if they are such good smiths why is it that only elves can work ironbark?

PS.: Most dwarves had swords or maces in Orzammar IIRC. Even Oghren and Varric aren't sporting any.

I'll be using a qunari most likely. I want my Inquisitor to look like she could actually open someone up if they provoked her. I'm really hoping that she has the type of muscle tone that would be appropriate to someone used to walking vast distances while carrying traveling supplies or martial combat. Typically the female characters look too soft for my liking.

Plus I'm hoping that her presence frightens people at least a little. I'm planning for her to be a mage as well so surely some people should at least be a little fearful around her. The type of fear that would make someone apologize for being in the way should she push them aside.

I'll have to play the game first to decide which one will make the best Inquisitor, because I don't know what the in game reactions will be. My favorite race in Origins was City Elf, followed closely by Dwarf Commoner. I tend to like underdogs. I'm going to guess that my favorite will be a non-human and probably whichever one will have the toughest time getting people to take them seriously. Stab in the dark guess - Qunari Mage.

I have been fascinated by the Qunari ever since I first laid eyes on the Arishok's compound in Dragon Age ][. SO my Inquisitor is definitely going to be a Qunari. Menacing, strong, but with good reason and ethics.

I'm torn between Human and Qunari. I usually choose human because they are the standard race so I want to change that and the qunari are the epitome of badassness in the Dragon Age universe, but I don't like how goofy they look in this picture:




I also don't like how bulky they're, IMO the female qunari looks better in this concept art:

I don't know if I have a favourite race. I'd love to find out more about the dwarves and their culture, though, so I'm going with that. Since I haven't played the game yet, I have no idea if they'd make the best Inquisitors, though, My first Inquisitor will be human anyways, so we'll see.

I'm uncertain how to address "the best" because I'm not sure what the context is here. If we're talking about which race would be the most effective as an Inquisitor then my answer is human. Humans currently dominate the culture of Thedas, from the Imperium to the Kocari Wilds. A human Inquisitor will have the most wide-spread influence. The Inquisition itself is presumably a vehicle of the Chantry (I don't believe anything as powerful as an world-spanning inquisition could exist without at leas the Chantry's sponsorship, otherwise the inquisition would just be an independent faction of war), founded by humans with a strong eye toward human interests.

This doesn't make the human Inquisitor more interesting to me, though; on the contrary, I'm more interested in learning the reasons behind other races for taking up the banner of the Inquisition. I'm aware that it's probably not a religious order, like the Templars or Seekers, at least not at it's core, lending many more shades of motivations to other races.

I really look forward to (more) information being released about the background of the PC races. Understanding their motivations and large-scale goals (such as achieving freedom and rights for the elves rebelling in Orlais and, hopefully, Tevinter) will definitely guide me toward making my choice for what race my first Inquisitor run-through will be.

In past games, I default to Human. I consider it the "vanilla" playthrough and use it to get a broad understanding of the game itself, then play again as each other race to pick up the more nuanced threads of the storytelling.

 

I have to admit though that the LI I am most excited about is having an impact on my choices. I've got my fingers crossed for Cullen, and if he's legit then I'll definitely be a human mage, no waffling about it.

I like Dwarves because they seem to have a bit from each race, and I find that appealing. They have a lost culture and history due to an ancient threat(like the dalish) the casteless are as far below as the elves in the alienage, They have nobility and kings just like humans as well as groups from craftsmen to servants, to even miners. They have a warrior culture like the Qunari with an ordered structure, they do NOT have magic, but i always feel I am getting a smattering with being a dwarf. i also like their outside point of view with most issues in Thedas and it is nice playing a character with limited preconceptions.

Qunari is nice partly for the same reason, but I think going from a rogue dwarf to a mage elf would be the biggest contrast on character viewpoints

Agreed, ive mentioned before my concern when seeing the pre-alpha model of the qunari, to me they're much too human looking, lacking the distinction they had in DA2 i assumed since the iron bull looks like their previous design that, that would be their look but with both Varric and Cassandra going through redesigns more than once, im a bit more nervous to see the outcome of the Qunari.
