If we're going by each prologue's status as a tutorial session within the narrative, ME2's is faaaaar more awkward than ME3's.

This is evidently a very complex idea for you, but tutorials exist for a reason. Developers are thankfully smart enough to understand that not all players are familiar with the previous game or with third person shooters in general. In addition, it's a very delusional argument. The opening level has plenty of setpieces. Apparently you're upset with the premise of a game based on combat having combat?

David, the problem is that an important moment in the trilogy is completely fumbled and is, well, ****. There isn't any reason why the Reaper assault had to be used as a tutorial.

Go ahead and keep defending garbage content if you want to.

I dunno. The tutorial wasn't so bad. The thing that stands out the most to me is Shepard immediately knowing about thermal clips, but that could've come around before the Collector attack. ME1's was definitely the most seamless of the three.

Pretty much.

There are actually very good reasons. But I wouldn't expect them to be on the level on someone whose arguments depend so throughly on petulent whining and childish insults.

Would you care to share those reasons?

Instead of insulting people and their 'petulant whining', you could instead tell us your 'very good reasons'.

Let's hear it Professor David.

Thinking about it, it would've been nice to see those again when finding Javik.

I'm actually starting to think that the next time David calls something "silly" or "ridiculous" without any explanation, we should actually not ask him why he thinks this. It' just never productive at all.

I'm curious. Do you see any issue with your gleeful support of 'sadistic' and 'ruthless' choices and characters right above your request for people to shake the hands of veterens and thank them with a kissy face?

That's too bad. Going by the strength of your arguments in favor of nonsense like the Lazarus Project, your efforts would have been good for a cheap laugh at least.

You're assuming some would actually be left after infinite-ammo Shepard got done with the place. That's cute.

I actually thought the ME2 tutorial did a pretty decent job introducing its mechanics gradually. First we're given control over only the camera and basic movement, then we're given a gun, then we're told how to use Jacob's Pull ability, etc. I won't defend any of the narrative decisions in that opening, but strictly as a means of getting you acclimated to the game's mechanics, it was serviceable enough for me.

Rendering the gas bags extinct = 100 renegade points.

Its systematic nature is what makes it so rigid, but, yeah, it does cover the necessary basis.

Where does it say to thank them with a kissy face? Or you just enjoy insulting people that served in the military?

Well there we have it folks. Here is David's defense of design decisions in ME3...

Nothing. But I did think it a more prudent concern than explaining why a tutorial is a good idea. Which I figured was rather obvious.

Well, then it sure is a good thing that nobody here ever questioned the idea that having a tutorial is a good thing. The actual question concerned whether or not that tutorial should take place during what is narratively the most important moment in the series up to that point.

Hardly the most important moment.

Perhaps a better question, (in order to place the burden of proof properly), would be 'How does a tutorial being present compromise the Reaper invasion of Earth'?

I'm not sure where else, or how else, they could've done it, though, unless they cooked up some bull mission for Shepard.

Or, hm, maybe something literal like Bond's reentry tests in Skyfall, before shit hits the fan.
