Hey folks. Hip deep in a project for some people, and wondering -- various items can have "AC versus" a given kind of attack.  Is that differentiable by type?  aka, if I had some items I didn't want to have stack, could I go into the .2da and have the providing an armor or shield bonus, and if I wanted some items TO stack, could I go in and set the .2da for that object to provide dodge?

Anybody know?  If so, it would let me do something cool for some buds on a PW without having to use scripts and hidden items in the PCs' creature slots, which would be nice.

I believe the column AC_Enchat in Baseitems.2da defines which type of AC enchants a type of item takes.

Remember though, this changes all items in the module of the type changed, and you will want this in a HAK linked to the module, not as an override or risk it affecting all modules.

Dodge is indeed the only type which will stack (well, from the regular enchants anyway, i believe there is a base type of AC that is not an enchantment that stacks or something, its how feats like Armour Skin stack i think). Remember though, Dodge AC is lost when flanked or flat-footed, so if you changed all type to be Dodge AC, that Knight in Full Plate with Tower shield is going to find a majority of their AC disappear when flanked.

Some feats that improve AC, like Luck of Heros, apparently use that generic (stackable) AC type. Other feats use natural AC though, which apparently doesn't stack. Armour Skin appears to be one of the latter - although I've never noticed the feat not stacking with amulets of natural armour class.

EDIT:

A-ha! Some AC bonuses are further subdivided into base or enhancement bonuses. So natural AC granted by feats will stack (base bonus), but natural AC granted by an amulet or a spell won't (enhancement bonus).

Yeah, this would have to be a hak (it's for a PW) and base vs enhancement is definitely correct and working as advertised (though I've never figured out how to get an item to give "base" unless perhaps a creature skin -- would have to check that in the 2das.So *hopefully* we're in the clear and there's nothing insane and funky about how it does "bonus vs type."

(What drives me NUTS is that I can't seem to add items to armorrulestats unless it's, you know, an armor. Even though there are shields and plenty of them in there. Godshield of ten AC? Sure, np! But for the life of me I can't see where any of the reference numbers actually are for what is tied to what...and it would potentially be an elegant solution.
